As crazy as the thought may seem, WWE‘s women’s division hasn’t always been seen as prominent as it is today. There was a time when pillow fights and evening gown contests were often the closest you’d get to an actual wrestling match in regards to female talent.

Back in the day, when the women did have an opportunity to wrestle, the matches often ended in under 7 minutes or a stipulation was implemented for laughs and giggles.

Case in point: the bout between Victoria and Molly Holly at WrestleMania 20 was originally never going to happen until the latter pitched the idea of getting her head shaved off.

Luckily, the era of female wrestlers fighting for a little time to shine is a thing of the past.

Wrestling stars of today like Sasha Banks, Asuka, Io Shari, Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, and Charlotte Flair have shown that not only do they have the skills to excite an audience, they can also oftentimes be the only aspect of a wrestling show that anyone wants to talk about a day later.
