WWE SmackDown: 5 Must-See Feuds For Roman Reigns
By Mark Justice
Roman Reigns is expected to represent WWE SmackDown as the Universal Champion at WWE Survivor Series 2021 when he battles WWE Champion Big E from WWE Raw. After retaining the championship against Brock Lesnar, who is now indefinitely suspended, Reigns now has no clear challenger for his title. Now that WWE SmackDown is in a new era with a new roster, the time is now to identify and elaborate on five must see feuds for Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
The following will identify and elaborate on five must must see feuds for Universal Champion Roman Reigns in this new era of WWE SmackDown.
5.) King Woods
On WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns vs. King Woods would be a perfect feud to book in the build to this year’s Survivor Series. Since Woods won KOTR, he should be capitalizing on that victory with his first world title opportunity. Also, as mentioned earlier, Reigns is expected to battle Big E at Survivor Series. Henceforth, the idea of Reigns defeating Big E’s New Day brethren before their big match at Survivor Series would be an ideal booking scenario that could add more layers to the storytelling between The Bloodline and The New Day in the grand scheme of things.
4.) Ricochet
On WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns vs. Ricochet would be a perfect feud to book in the build to a B-Level PPV like Day 1. Ricochet was absolutely buried in his last world title shot against Brock Lesnar. Now that he has a fresh start on SmackDown, he can redeem himself in a main event program with Roman Reigns. Ricochet is certainly not established well enough in the WWE to battle Reigns on a big stage like Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, but this new PPV called Day 1 would be a perfect venue for him to shine and prove why he belongs in the main event scene.
3.) Shinsuke Nakamura
On WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns vs. Shinsuke Nakamura would be a perfect feud to book in the build to Royal Rumble 2022. Nakamura almost won a gauntlet match in the build to Royal Rumble 2021 that would have given him an opportunity at the Universal Title. However, The Bloodline screwed Nakamura out of that opportunity and the WWE never followed through on that storyline. Calling back to that moment one year later in the build to Royal Rumble 2022 would be WWE’s last chance to give Nakamura a chance to shine once more in the main event scene.
2.) Drew McIntyre
On WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre would be a perfect feud to book in the build to WrestleMania 38. Drew McIntyre is already a WrestleMania main eventer and former world champion, so his spot in a WrestleMania main event with Roman Reigns is almost a guarantee unless a part timer like Brock Lesnar or The Rock shows up to take that spot away from him. Reigns did claim Drew McIntyre is the only person he’d consider passing the torch to in WWE since McIntyre is a “strong #2 performer.” This could be the case at WrestleMania 38.
1.) Jeff Hardy
On WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns vs. Jeff Hardy would be a perfect feud to book in the build to SummerSlam 2021. Although Jeff Hardy is continuously losing his matches, he is still an established star in the WWE who continues to be over with the fans as a lovable babyface to this day. There have been talks of Hardy unleashing Willow at some point in the final stages of his WWE career. Unleashing it during an epic title feud with Roman Reigns would be an ideal booking scenario to connect the fans with Hardy’s character development in his inevitable loss to Reigns.
Of course, Sheamus has been a popular name thrown out there as a potential opponent for Roman Reigns after turning babyface. However, he is not listed here because he should remain a heel and target the one title that eluded his career and prevented him from achieving the ultimate grand slam: the Intercontinental Championship.
