WWE NXT 2.0: Hayes is still North American Champion; War Games Teams Set
This week on NXT, the NXT North American Title is on the line, as the current champion Carmelo Hayes takes on Pete Dunne and Johnny Gargano. Grayson Waller is scheduled to take on the current reigning NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa. Plus, a week after their WarGames match was made official, the NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose is set to clash with Cora Jade.
We start things off a little different tonight. Grayson Waller interrupts the intro and berates the fans for a few brief moments before he’s interrupted by the NXT Champion Tammoso Ciampa.
Tommaso Ciampa vs. Grayson Waller
As expected, the NXT fans are solidly behind the Champ, as he puts the boots to Waller.
As the match progresses, Waller gains the upper hand on the NXT veteran; much to the dismay of the fans in attendance.
Despite the momentum shifting several times and Graysons valiant effort, Waller manages to hit the fairy tale ending for the win.
Backstage with LA Knight and McKenzie Mitchell
Knight trashes Grayson and proclaims that he sucks. He’s interrupted by Joe Gacy and it appears the two will duke it out later on tonight.
Here’s Toxic Attraction (and they’re accompanied by Dakota Kai)
Back from commercial break and we’re shown footage of Toxic Atrration entering the arena earlier in the day. Then, Dakota Kai casually joins the trio.
Enter Kay Lee Ray.
Cameron Grimes/Duke Hudson – Luchas de Apuestas at NXT WarGames!
We’re now live once again and Cameron Crimes is approaching the ring. He explains that he was told he wasn’t good enough when he was younger. But he never let that stop him. He proved the doubters wrong.
But then Duke Hudson came along and embarrassed him. He calls Hudson out, but instead of facing him, Hudson plays typical heel and talks trash via titan tron.
Crimes then challenges Hudson to a hair vs hair match. Hudson accepts.
Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter vs. Indi Hartwell & Persia Pirotta
The story going into this match is how exactly will Indi Hardwell focus on the bout after what happened to her husband Dexter Lumis at the hands of Carmello Hayes last week.
As the match proceeds, it’s made very clear that Hartwell’s head is not in this one. This ultimately costs her team, as Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter pick up the W.
Santos Escobar vs. Malik Blade
He returned last week. He’s back in action this week. Escobar makes short work of Blade and picks up the win. After the match, the rest of Legado Del Funtasma enter the ring.
“No one says no to Legado Del Fantasma” Elektra says. This is of course directed at Xyon Quinn.
Before they can say much of anything else, they’re interrupted by Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner. Their reason? They intend to be NXT Tag Team Champions.
Then they’re interrupted by Imperium.
Imperium makes it clear that it doesn’t matter who challenges them, the result will be the same. The opposing team will lose.
Mandy Rose vs. Cora Jade
A big question going into this match is who will be the 4th member of the team at war games.
Mandy Rose dominates most of the match before Kay Lee Ray approaches the ring, distracts Rose, and costs her the victory. Jade rolls up Rose for the win… well, I think it’s safe to say we know who Team Raquel’s fourth member will be.
Spoiler alert:Â Kay Lee Ray IS in fact the fourth member.
Joe Gacy vs. LA Knight (Well, that’s what was scheduled)
Apparently, Waller caught wind of the venom Knight was spewing earlier and he took that personally, as he attacked him before this match could get underway. The two continue to brawl and Gacy is left alone to address the crowd.
Diamond Mind interrupts Gacy. Bibbins suggests Gacy get out of the ring, but it doesn’t go down like that. Gacy claims that Roderick Strong’s name and the cruiserweight title are both clear examples of toxic masculinity.
Strong is having none of it and wants to shut Gacy up. Gacy vs. Strong is made official for WarGames.
Johnny Gargano vs. Pete Dunne vs. Carmelo Hayes
In the midst of a competitive, hard-hitting three-way; Tony D’Angelo enters the fray and pulls Pete Dunne out of the ring. This gives Hayes the opportunity to hit Johnny Wrestling with a leg drop bulldog, pin him, and retain his title.
After the match, all hell breaks loose the scene is chaotic and intense. A brawl ensues between Dunne, Gargano, Hayes, D’Angelo, Knight, and Waller. Ciampo soon enters the battle; saving Gagano from suffering the same fate as Dexter Lumis.
Then Bron Breakker makes his way to the ring, but before the fists commence to flying again, he declares WARGAMES!
The show goes off the air with all the combatants resuming their fight.
