Shinsuke Nakamura is the biggest miss on talent seen in the WWE in the last five years.

WWE has numerous wrestlers, but only a small number are seen as main event-level superstars. Unfortunately, so many stars on the bottom of the list happen to be highly talented wrestlers. If one specific person is the most significant “miss” within the WWE in the last five years, it must be Shinsuke Nakamura.

When Shinsuke arrived in NXT in 2016, the WWE Universe reacted with pure excitement as they got to witness a classic between him and Sami Zayn. Shinsuke would also become NXT Champion before moving up to the main roster. The moment he joined SmackDown, he did not rush to rise to the top as he went toe to toe with SmackDown’s biggest stars. Nakamura even defeated John Cena and Randy Orton clean. Nakamura also won the Royal Rumble and earned himself a WWE Championship opportunity at WrestleMania.

Unfortunately, Shinsuke came up short at winning the WWE Championship from AJ Styles at WrestleMania 34, thus leading him to turn heel. Although Shinsuke won the Intercontinental, United States, and Tag Team Championship as a heel, his run still seemed fizzled out. He’s one of many names that are plagued with the tired booking trope of the champion losing non-title matches.

WWE once again repackaged Nakamura this year and slotted him for a run as the IC champ, but that time with the belt has not only damaged his value but the title as well.

Shinsuke has been the Intercontinental Champion since July. He has only defended his championship once throughout his current reign, which was all the way back in September against Apollo Crews – an individual that was on a losing streak.  Lately, Nakamura has been booked in multiple tag team matches with Rick Boogs, where he’s taken the pin. Booking Nakamura in decent fashion with this title seems like an afterthought.

Shinsuke Nakamura could easily be a massive star for the promotion.

Nakamura could return to form if the WWE decided to book him in proper fashion. We’re talking about one of the greatest individuals to perform in wrestling of this generation. Unfortunately, his utilization on the main roster is a far cry from the same individual that headlined Wrestle Kingdom and was recognized as a massive name in New Japan. WWE can right the ship with him, but one has to wonder if there’s any intention to do so.

With a new year coming, there’s a lot of hope that WWE improves on its booking practices of late. One such example is how Shinsuke Nakamura has been used throughout his time with the company. If the creative team can get this right, he can quickly become one o the biggest stars in the promotion.
