Who should be the man who finally defeats Roman Reigns?
By Simon Hannig
Everyone expects Universal Champion Roman Reigns to defeat Goldberg at Elimination Chamber on Feb. 19th in Saudi Arabia, continuing his 500+ title reign. Who should be the one to step up and finally defeat Reigns and end his reign as champion?
There is no question the Head of the Table, the Tribal Chief has been on the best pro-wrestler in the world right now, and has been for quite some time. Roman Reigns has defeated a lot of opponents over his reign, and quality ones that could’ve potentially ended the reign.
With Reigns getting closer to 600 days on his title reign, and the expectation that he will defeat Goldberg in a couple of weeks, Daily DDT’s Simon Hannig takes a look at five men who could potentially end his title reign.
(5) Seth “Freaking” Rollins
We saw the type of feud Rollins and Reigns can build within a few short weeks before the Royal Rumble. Rollins has had a very strong showing to start the new year. Rollins has been one of the top wrestlers in the world for quite some time now.
With the finish we saw at the Royal Rumble, the WWE should revisit this match down the line. As both men put on a show and were the highlight of that pay-per-view.
(4) Drew McIntyre
It has been rumored for weeks now that McIntyre and Reigns will have a program down the line. With McIntyre back in the fold on SmackDown after coming back from injury, it will be interesting to see how WWE builds him up to this potential feud.
McIntyre is a former two-time WWE Champion. He, along with Rollins has the accolades to dethrone Reigns.
If Reigns continues to be champion after WrestleMania 38, this should be the next feud and the one to potentially end his Reign.
And maybe, just maybe McIntyre will finally have his moment in front of fans capturing the title.
(3) Brock Lesnar
We have seen a Brock Lesnar and Reigns feud many times before, and the feud will continue at WrestleMania 38.
With Lesnar in the Elimination Chamber title match against Bobby Lashley, it is quite possible we see a Champion vs. Champion, winner takes all at the biggest show of the year.
Lesnar has had quite the run recently being the top babyface in the company, and he seems to be over with the fans.
It seems possible and more than likely the logical person to likely dethrone Reigns. But, with the WWE, anything is possible.
(2) Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
This is the feud the WWE has wanted for a while for Reigns. This has been a dream match a lot of fans have been wanting to see for quite some time.
We’ve seen The Rock come back and win the title after missing a lot of time. It is possible that this happens again. Now, will Reigns title reign last almost two years to the next WrestleMania? Possibly not, but if they want to build Reigns as the greatest of all time like they are doing now, it is very possible.
Having The Rock back in the fold and on WWE TV programming would do wonders for the company, and for ratings.
This is a match that needs to happen down the line, and what better way for Reigns reign to finally end, and it is one of his family members doing so?
(1) Gunther aka Walter
This would seem like the logical choice for the WWE to build up a new star by bringing in someone from NXT 2.0.
Someone fresh, someone new to face Reigns.
It would be cool for them to do what they did similar to Paige. After Reigns defeats Lesnar at WrestleMania, Reigns comes back on the first SmackDown after ‘Mania.
Gunther comes out as a surprise. Reigns then challenge Gunther right then and there for both titles as a post-WrestleMania treat for the fans.
Then Gunther defeats Reigns, and this would create a new star for the company. Which is much needed currently.
Reigns has had an impressive run during his time as a heel, and this is what the company has wanted for Reigns for a long time. Reigns title run is 525 days and counting. With no end in sight before WrestleMania.
For Reigns, his title reign has never felt stale, it always seemed fresh and new, no matter who he was feuding with. This is the best we’ve seen Reigns in a long time. He’s improved greatly in every facet of his game — from in-ring to being on the microphone.
Whenever his reign ends, it will come as a shock to everyone, but it is time to see look at potential wrestlers who can his run, and who is worthy and built up enough to end the run Reigns is currently on.
He is the Head of the Table and the Tribal Chief for a reason. Who can finally step up to the plate and defeat him?
