WrestleMania 38 has at least one of its main events. Roman Reigns versus Brock Lesnar is set to happen, again. Regardless of the costs to the rest of the roster, WWE pushed for this match and put the titles up for grabs. Looking at the history between these men and Reigns’s current run, Roman must come out with the titles over his shoulder to finally bring this to a close.

According to Cagematch, Lesnar and Reigns have competed against each other in four, one-on-one singles matches. To date, they are tied against each other in these contests with two wins each. While that seems like even booking, diving deeper into those four matches shows a glaring difference between the victories for each man.

Lesnar has picked up clean victories over Reigns. Those wins came back in 2018 at the Greatest Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 34. However, when Reigns needed to beat Lesnar there was some sort of shotty finish. Look back to the matches at SummerSlam in 2018 or WWE Crown Jewel in 2021. Reigns saw his hand raised both times, but not before someone else paved the way for the victory. Again, these are in singles matches only.

The finish for WrestleMania 38 must be definitive and must bring an end to this feud.

On one hand, Reigns has demolished every challenger on SmackDown. The booking of the men’s division eliminates any individual as a contender. Even Drew McIntyre is stuck in a storyline with Baron Corbin and MadCap Moss. WWE would have to do extensive work to build any of the other names into competitors that fans would want to see against Reigns. That’s an effort the company has shown no interest in making.

Then there’s Lesnar on the other side. He just tore through several of Raw’s top names with ease at Elimination Chamber. He defeated Big E and sent him packing back to SmackDown, where he and Kofi Kingston aren’t even referred to as The New Day. There isn’t one individual on the WWE roster that can be looked at as a credible opponent to Lesnar. He’s the final boss, but the game is rigged in his favor every time.

This storyline can’t continue after WrestleMania 38. This is one of the few moments of the year where WWE generates stronger levels of excitement because fans are used to the company building some unique surprises and angles. That’s happening less each year and hoping for more change coming out of WrestleMania wouldn’t be a good step. This storyline can’t continue because typing up both titles around only Lesnar and Reigns denigrates everything else on the show at once. Remember when Lesnar was the WWE Champion and rarely appeared on television? This would fall into that category of bad booking and end up even worse because of the current state of booked talent across both shows.

Lesnar and Reigns will main event one of the two nights at WrestleMania 38. They will put on a fun, hard-hitting match that fans will remember. But this must be the end of it. Continuing this feud beyond this point would hurt the promotion and the rest of the men’s roster in ways that will be even more difficult to overcome as WWE’s booking practices continue to fall short.
