Booking Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre post WrestleMania Backlash
Roman Reigns made history at WrestleMania by defeating Brock Lesnar to unify the WWE and Universal Championships. With Roman’s program with Lesnar now being over, it is in question who will challenge The Tribal Chief after WrestleMania Backlash. Although WWE is going a different route with who will face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship after WrestleMania Backlash, it looked like Shinsuke Nakamura would have a program with The Tribal Chief.
As of late on SmackDown, it now seems Drew McIntyre is targeting The Tribal Chief. Instead of Reigns defending his championship at the next PPV, he will be competing in a six-man tag team match. Reigns is booked to team up with SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Usos against Drew McIntyre, and RAW Tag Team Champions RK-Bro.
Instead of Drew versing Reigns possibly at Hell in a Cell, it will be better if that program is stowed for a later date. Maybe WWE can have Reigns vs. McIntyre at SummerSlam or when WWE goes back to the United Kingdom in September.
The next pay-per-view after WrestleMania Backlash is Hell in a Cell, on June 5th. WWE can go a route that they have never done with Reigns. Instead of Reigns defending his title in singles or triple threat matches, he can compete in a first-time-ever match. Since Reigns has to appear on both RAW and SmackDown, Reigns can defend his championship against Randy Orton, Riddle, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Drew McIntyre. This proposed match would be a fatal five-way for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship inside Hell in a Cell. The match can be revolved around all four babyfaces targeting Reigns and trying to end his historical run as champion.
To keep McIntyre strong, Reigns can pin someone such as Nakamura or Riddle to retain. Not only would McIntyre stay strong, but his program can keep going throughout the summer. Maybe a huge twist can occur where McIntyre and Reigns have to deal with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
