WWE hot take: NXT calls to the main roster a race for the brass ring
By J.C.
The NXT brand went through a massive shift over the years, it went from a paradise for wrestling fans to some uncertainty. The show itself has gone through major changes, but the most noticeable is when they get called up to the WWE main roster.
The recent developments leave us to believe that the call-ups to RAW and Smackdown will be a strategic repackaging of personas and storylines for stars. The future of NXT seems to be a reach to grab ahold of the infamous brass ring in WWE.
The noticeable shift in NXT talent in WWE.
It used to be that fans would get excited or optimistic about the main roster call-up in the last few decades, but the recent developments make it hard to be excited about anything. It shows the need to play by WWE’s rules or face the consequences.
WWE has gone through and purged its roster over the last few years. The amount of superstars released is enough to open up another successful wrestling company. It sent a clear message that no one is safe in WWE and anything can be the reason that a star gets released.
With all of that in mind, it’s no wonder there has been a recent development with a notable star who was known as LA Knight in NXT. He would then go through yet another massive repackage as Max Dupri with a stable known as Maximum Male Models.
It didn’t make sense at first, but then there was a thought that came to mind about former NXT champion Karrion Kross. He had an experience on the main roster which truly set the tone for that long reach of the brass ring.
Karrion was torn apart and a shell of his former self as he made the transition to the main roster, but then he became someone completely unrecognizable. After that, the former NXT champion was released after finding success on the black and gold brand.
There are only so many spots open with various companies and there is no guarantee of AEW, Impact, or other wrestling companies. There has been a multitude of stars released and only a handful are back on weekly television.
Having a job is essential for anyone and sometimes due to various circumstances, a person will put up with a lot creatively. That’s what it feels like for a tense NXT locker room who will do anything to keep the job.
A superstar going through a repackage after appearing on a television show makes absolutely zero sense. Most fans can let it slide if a star is repackaged upon signing, but some superstars may go through more personalities than Mick Foley in a span of a few months to a year.
Some superstars who don’t get released by WWE may decide to go with the flow and hope things get better gradually. Others may swallow whatever feelings they have for the time being and get tired of it later on. One can hope that these superstars don’t feel trapped by the creative changes.
Either way, it’s a bad situation for wrestling stars and maybe a spin of the wheel depending on the individual. There have been bad feelings about creativity with former stars like Athena being open about her feelings to Sasha Banks and Naomi who remain a question mark for the future.
The bottom line, WWE making this decision is a bad mixture of the circumstances that have slowly been building up over the last few years. It will be interesting since it has the potential to be engraved in history forever as one of the worst decisions in WWE history.
This could be a recipe for disaster for WWE in the future. That recipe could taste bitter for fans and superstars alike. This is a shame since WWE still has a flame growing within that could be blown out by continuous bad decisions.
