The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships have been surrounded by controversy since Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out on Raw and were stripped of their titles. Now, WWE is tasked with finding new tag team champions.

When you are putting on a live show, you never can be sure what is going to happen. On the May 16th edition of Monday Night Raw, real-life and business got mixed up.  When they were not pleased with a planned six-pack challenge main event that evening, Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out on the company. The move was talked down upon by the commentary team during the show and Banks and Naomi was stripped of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships and reported to have been suspended indefinitely. What looked like was going to be a lengthy and meaningful reign as champions for Banks and Naomi was over just like that.

Now the tag team titles are vacant and the WWE is tasked with finding new champions. It has been announced that a tournament will take place to crown new champions, but it could be hard to find teams to compete. While we have seen teams like Natalya and Shayna Baszler and Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H working together, there aren’t many other established women’s teams to fight for the titles. We may see some new “oddball” teams come together for a chance to be champs. With that said, here are five possible choices for the next Women’s Tag Team Champions.

5. Raquel Rodriguez and Xai Li

Talking about an odd team coming together, let’s go ahead and get this team out of the way. Ever since she made her debut on SmackDown, Raquel Rodriguez has been a dominant force and has impressed the WWE Universe in her matches against SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. While on the other half of this make-shift team, Xai Li arrived in SmackDown as “The Protector” of the locker room. She has since shifted the gimmick to only caring about protecting herself. However, with the idea of winning gold, she could make an exception for Rodriguez.

With the steam that Raquel has built since her main roster debut, she has to be a favorite in the tournament if she decides to be a part of it with any partner she picked. Despite the short time that she held the titles, Raquel is a two–time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion with Dakota Kai. We have seen that she is capable of winning gold and Xai Li has no problem going against the best the company has to offer. While this is a reach, if Xai Li and Raquel did team up for the tournament, they would be a tough team to beat.

4. Natalya and Shayna Baszler

One of the most obvious choices for the next tag team champions has to be Shayna Baszler and Natalya. They are two of the toughest women in the entire company and look like an unstoppable force when they are by each other’s side. They both know what it takes to be a WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion. Baszler is a two-time champion alongside Nia Jax while Natalya held the titles with Tamina. They came up short in the fatal four-way match at WrestleMania where Sasha Banks and Naomi won the titles. However, in a tournament situation, everything is different.

When it comes down to a two-on-two match, there are few teams that would be a favorite against Natalya and Baszler. Natalya has made history multiple times over in the WWE and has the Guinness World Records to verify it. Shayna Baszler was one of the most dominant NXT Women’s Champions in history and simply one of the most dangerous women in the business. When you put the two of them together, you have to have your favorite in nearly any match that they are a part of. They have held the title before and could easily do it again together this time.

3. Shotzi and Aliyah

In typical WWE fashion, it would only make sense for the two people that are feuding to come together and win tag team gold. We have seen it countless times in the past and on some occasions, the two rivals become a good tag team. We have seen teams like The Bar, Team Hell No, and even Matt Hardy and MVP. Aliyah and Shotzi have been trying their best to win gold in the WWE and they keep getting into each other’s way. If they quit running at each other and started running together, they could possibly run right to the Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Shotzi and Aliyah are both looking to make a name for themselves on the main roster. They were both impressive when they were in NXT but this is a whole different animal. Shotzi has held tag team gold in NXT with Ember Moon. However, she hasn’t had any luck so far on SmackDown. Aliyah has been making history in her short time on SmackDown but they both need something big to make their mark on the company. They could be able to do that together if they team together and enter the tournament.

2. Becky Lynch and Bayley

This has to be my most farfetched guess on this list but it would make sense. Since Becky Lynch returned from having her baby, we have seen her slowly lose her mind. She has thought the fans have turned against her and really lost control when she lost her Raw Women’s Championship to Bianca Belair. Things have only gotten worse for Becky as she recently lost a match against the 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke thanks to Asuka. It is quite possible that Becky Lynch won’t be fine until she gets her hands on more WWE gold.

Perhaps she will go after one title she hasn’t held yet and go after the Women’s Tag Team Championships. However, she will need to find a partner to go after the titles with and Becky hasn’t made herself the most likable woman on the roster. Although, Becky does have some old friends to call up and see if they might want to go for the gold. With Sasha and Charlotte out of the picture, Becky has one call to make. The WWE Universe has eagerly waiting for the return of Bayley since she tore her ACL in July of last year. It would an unstoppable team if Becky and Bayley would enter the tournament together.

1. Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H

Over the past few weeks, Doudrop has taken Nikki A.S.H under her wind and has been trying to get her back down to business. Nikki A.S.H was on the top of the world for a short time in 2021. She won the Women’s Money In The Bank briefcase and cashed it in to win the Raw Women’s Championship for the first time in her career. However, her reign as champion was cut short as she lost the title back to Charlotte in about a month. Nikki A.S.H hasn’t been able to get back to the top since she lost the title and struggled to find out her next direction.

She struggled to find her place until she aligned with Rhea Ripley to go after the Women’s Tag Team Championships. They were able to win the titles and held them for about two months. After losing the titles to Carmella and Queen Zelina, she snapped and attacked her partner. Since then, Nikki has once again been struggling to find her place on the roster. She was once the superhero of the roster and was soon almost forgotten. Doudrop found Nikki a broken shell of who she once was. With Doudrop’s guidance, Nikki A.S.H could be on the way to making history and becoming the first-ever four-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.
