The professional wrestling world received some great news on Wednesday. Marc Raimondi of ESPN reported that Big E will make a “complete recovery” from the broken neck injury that forced him out of action in March.

According to Raimondi’s report, Big E stated that his neck will be evaluated at the six- and nine-month marks, but there isn’t a current estimation on how long he will be out of the ring until he gets checked one year from the injury which is in March 2023.

Big E suffered the tragic injury during a match on WWE SmackDown against Ridge Holland and Sheamus. Holland executed a belly-to-belly overhead suplex on the floor and Big E came down on his neck in a moment that was immediately recognized as a severe injury. Big E has provided periodic updates on his status and recovery via social media, recently saying that he will not need surgery and did not experience any displacement to his spine. He has said that doctors informed him that the injury could have caused “stroke, paralysis or death.”

“I think to be great at something like [pro wrestling], or at least be competent, you can’t spend all your time worrying about possibly fatal injuries or breaking your neck,” Big E said in Raimondi’s piece. “You have to go out there and be free and in the moment. I think a lot of us as performers don’t spend a lot of time thinking about that stuff. I never thought I would be.”

The wrestling world rallied around Big E the night of his injury, with fans, colleagues, and peers in other organizations singing his praises and offering support. Along with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in The New Day, they are one of the most well-liked acts in the WWE, and Big E’s rise to the WWE Championship in 2021 was one of the top stories of the year.
