After a few SummerSlam appearances prior to 2019, Becky Lynch competed in her debut singles match at SummerSlam in 2019. Her opponent for that match was Natalya and Becky of course won, retaining her Raw Women’s Championship. She didn’t compete in 2020 due to her maternity leave, and in 2021 she shocked the world by returning and beating then-champion Bianca Belair in under 30 seconds or so. Today we’ll be looking at exactly why Becky Lynch could be Ms. SummerSlam, but only if all goes according to her devious plan.

Becky Lynch went into that moment at SummerSlam 2021 where she shocked the world, beating Belair and turning heel all in one fell swoop; she made these statements while speaking to the New York Post:

"“It’s a process of, how do I do the exact opposite of what I’ve been doing my entire career? … The heel’s job is to take away what the fans want, so that’s why I looked at it as, ‘Well if they want The Man back then let me be the opposite of that,’ so that I’m not giving them what they want. They want Bianca to be their babyface champion, I take that away.”via New York Post"

Becky will be facing Bianca Belair for a rematch, if you will, of last year’s aforementioned performance. This of course could go either way and I’ll get this said right off the bat here: If Becky defeats Bianca, she undoubtedly will be crowned Ms. SummerSlam in my eyes and perhaps in the eyes of many, proving that in singles matches, she can be undefeated at the biggest party of the summer.

This actually calls to mind two men from the annals of pro wrestling history. None other than The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. If you will remember, The Rock could not seem to beat Steve Austin at WrestleMania in this case…Steve defeated the eyebrow-raising, pie-eating Rock at WrestleMania 14 and 17, and it seemed as though when they entered into their feud leading into WrestleMania 19, that status quo would remain unchanged or rather undisturbed.

But it would be in “Act 3” as Dwayne Johnson put it in a promo back then in 2003, that The Rock would finally beat the retiring Steve Austin.  That would mark Steve’s last match as an active competitor…until this past year’s WrestleMania when he returned to face Kevin Owens on the grandest stage of them all. But it sure was the end of an era and Steve was uncrowned on that night.

In this case here with Bianca and Becky, that’s definitely a way they can go…have Becky regain her championship, thus making it seem impossible for Bianca to win at SummerSlam. This would lead to great storylines down the line, as it did with the aforementioned two mammoths of the industry, Steve and Dwayne, but I’m still not sure if that’s where they’ll be going with this. A good idea, yes, but I still don’t know….

If we look at how Becky Lynch has been portrayed and in the light she’s been shown in as of late, it doesn’t look exactly like the momentum is in her favor at all, and it would seem like Bianca will be retaining. If we look at recent WWE championship reigns—the major ones at least—it would make sense.

Bianca Belair for her part has had a meteoric rise in the industry. She had an impressive run in NXT and under the guidance of Triple H, as she says, she made it to the main roster where she would be shining brighter than she ever did, and it was since that debut that her aforementioned meteoric rise would start. She spoke of this while speaking to The Ringer’s MackMania Podcast back in April:

"“Triple H is everything, I mean, he was NXT…I didn’t really know what was happening when the pandemic started because I was in NXT…Triple H was the one who pulled me aside and said, ‘Hey, I know you didn’t get to have your moment here in NXT, but it’s not going to happen here. It’s going to happen somewhere else. You’re getting called to RAW and you’re going to debut at the RAW after WrestleMania’…So, I was going to have my debut moment and then the pandemic happened and everything shut down. I end up debuting at WrestleMania in the Performance Center in front of zero fans and then, you know, trying to introduce myself to this larger audience now that’s just on TV of who Bianca Belair is…I was worried about that. I was like, ‘how can I  get people to know who I am and how can I get them to feel?’ …Because my thing is, I don’t want people just to watch me, watch me perform. I want to make them feel and connect with me, and I had to do that for about a year with no one. And win the Royal Rumble in front of no one, then go to WrestleMania in front of a crowd not knowing, ‘are they going to boo me? Are they going to cheer me? I don’t know.’ So it was tough, but that was my journey, a part of who Bianca Belair is now. I’m just super excited now to be here for WrestleMania in Dallas now, in front of a full audience.”via Wrestling Inc. (Transcription)"

Together at WrestleMania 38, the two women together made up one-third of the matches that stole the show, the other two being Seth vs. Cody and of course Austin vs. Owens. Talk about match chemistry…the two women obviously have it; they’ve been pitted against one another in the last year many times and there’s good reason for that.

And if Bianca does win at SummerSlam this year, I’d have to say that with a turnaround such as that, we’d have to crown Bianca as Ms. SummerSlam in the end, and her inauguration would be celebrated at the end of that match when she hoists the title with her muscular and capable shoulders to the skies.

Next. WWE has never used Bobby Roode to his fullest potential. dark

So I guess the spot for Ms. SummerSlam remains vacant, dear readers; at least for the moment. But we only have a little while longer to wait. Time will tell, as they say.
