Cashing in the Money In The Bank briefcase at NXT would be the best story for the Austin Theory and the WWE.

WWE has been pushing lots of young stars over the past several months with new management in place. There are always lots of moving parts in the wrestling business, and it shows with the number of returns there have been. All seems to be going well for World Wrestling Entertainment nowadays.

However, one young superstar who’s been in the mud recently really needs a shakeup. Austin Theory is that star needs that change in direction. The trajectory of Theory’s stock has gone up and down like a roller coaster.

But first, we need to rewind a bit to get everyone up to speed. The McDonough, Georgia native was part of a faction called “The Way” that also featured Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, and Indi Hartwell. The villainous group started making waves in NXT, as they produced great stories, fantastic matches, and hilarious segments. Gargano led the stable and held the NXT North American Championship and the team of LeRae and Hartwell held the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. And while Theory didn’t hold a title in NXT, he still won the 2020 Future Star of the year in NXT.

We fast forward to his rise to the main roster and being labeled as Vince McMahon’s right-hand man. All of a sudden, Theory found himself in a position where other superstars would die to be in. Theory was immediately pushed to the top and found himself in a marquee match at Wrestlemania 38 in Dallas against Pat McAfee which was a spectacle to watch. The match couldn’t have gone better, and the post-match shenanigans even topped that with Theory’s amazing sale of the Stunner from Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Immediately following that program with McAfee, Theory qualified for the Money in the Bank Ladder match in Las Vegas. And in shocking fashion, Theory climbed the ladder and grabbed the briefcase that holds a contract to challenge for any world title in one calendar year. Say what you want about Vince, but he was grooming Austin Theory to be one of the WWE’s next big stars. However, it seems that when Vince retired, the tide shifted to Theory.

Theory started to tease cash-ins on Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns at Summerslam, in which they both threw him to the side. And since then, Austin Theory is riding a 15-match losing streak. A change is definitely needed due to the way upper management is booking the 25-year-old.

Let’s get one thing straight, successful cash-in on Roman Reigns is just simply not in the cards unless they turn Austin Theory into a major babyface which simply is not going to happen. Rather than losing the briefcase or failing on his cash-in, there’s a better alternative for the character. An appearance in NXT teasing a cash-in on Bron Breakker’s NXT Championship is a genius creative idea and it would help all involved.

It would help Theory break his massive losing streak and make him a major threat jumping from Raw to NXT and vice versa on a regular basis. It would also get more eyes on the product on Tuesday nights in what’s coming down the pipeline in NXT. People may want to tune in and see different stars like Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Mandy Rose, Cora Jade, Nikkita Lyons, and more.

A feud with Bron Breakker in NXT would be a major step up in comparison to what he’s doing right now under the WWE banner on Monday nights. Both Theory and Breakker would have a major program where I could see them trading the belt a couple of times and both superstars look fantastic in the ring. Three years from now both stars could easily be at the top of the company and main eventing shows all around the world.

If Theory doesn’t cash in the briefcase on Breakker or whoever the NXT Champion is at the time, this could be a major missed opportunity. I would also hate to see Theory fail on his cash-in on Roman Reigns. Whatever WWE does decide to do with Austin Theory and the Money in the Bank briefcase remains to be seen.
