Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the May 15th WWE RAW show this year, said to have thrown their belts down in protest of their and the women’s tag division’s booking.

Questions loom over their immediate futures in both WWE and pro wrestling altogether. Despite their absence from the sport, Sasha and Naomi have continued their ascent to stardom outside of the ring. Neither has looked out of place in their various Hollywood-profile public appearances, including the New York Fashion Week and She-Hulk premiere.

But what cannot be ignored is the sheer magnitude of their potential returns to the ring. That is the case, whether or not they return together or not. Both are bonafide stars who have thus far walked together but could very easily find a destiny that sets them apart.

Let’s consider the various scenarios that could manifest a Sasha Banks and Naomi return to the ring. If disputed reports that Sasha Banks has been released are indeed correct, then where is she best suited to continue her career? Both as the Legit Boss and Mercedes Varnardo, a brand she has made clear she wants to build.

Should Naomi return to WWE alone?

Naomi has a genuine opportunity and, to be frank, entitlement to be a legitimate star on the level of the Four Horsewomen.

Surely going after the Women’s Championship on SmackDown will draw the attention and backing of her Bloodline connections. Paul Heyman once floated the idea that she was already sitting at the table, perhaps she could deliver her pound of gold to the stable like all have had to so far.

The sheer question of the matter is does it make sense for Naomi to return without her partner whom she walked out with? And yes it does, by the way.

The collective booking of the tag division has been steadily improving under Triple H. Some would say that their walk-out has achieved its goal. They have shown they’re no more in need of the company than the company is in them, they are stars in their own right. But why, when there is so much still she could feasibly achieve, would Naomi not return to WWE?

What does the future hold for Sasha Banks?

It remains a complete and utter wonder how it is that WWE continually manages to collide with arguably the brightest star on their roster. Be that as it may, they have, and it isn’t even known whether or not she is still with the company or not.

Whenever the idea is floated that someone has departed WWE rumblings begin of moves to AEW. There have been some magnificent additions to their women’s roster this year, names like Saraya and Toni Storm. A number of stars deserve their shine like Ruby Soho and Jamie Hayter, and also a number of established icons like Britt Baker and Jade Cargill. Sasha Banks’ addition would feel like an even bigger step in the right direction.

Would it happen? Who knows. But it’s fun to speculate.

It’s clear to see Mercedes Varnardo has a Hollywood career budding as shown by her work in the Mandalorian. So where does that leave the room to be Sasha Banks on a full-time basis? Miro and Samoa Joe are two names who have shown AEW allows the flexibility to work on extra-curricular projects.

Sasha Banks and Mercedes Varnardo could have the better split of the limelight were she to sign with AEW. Working the lighter schedule, being the prized attraction of the women’s roster, and flourishing in her budding career in Hollywood.

A WWE return finds itself an interesting prospect. Returning to a promotion now led by a man she enjoyed so much success working for, and perhaps even if Bayley could somehow capture the RAW Women’s title. With the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania on the horizon, there remain infinite opportunities for the Legit Boss to explore should she return.

They left together and they should return as such

While it’s important to address the other opportunities on the table for the tag team. It is equally as important to maintain transparency when addressing what should happen.

They walked out together, and their message was clear. The booking of the women’s tag and sometimes the overall women’s divisions can use some work, and that has long been the case. The women’s revolution addressed the change that needed to occur but there remains a while to go if the truth is to be told.

Returning together will continue to hammer home the message, the WWE Women’s tag titles deserve greater respect than what they have received thus far.

There is an in-built story for their return here too. Returning to defend Sasha’s classic rival, Bianca Belair, in her battle against Damage CTRL, led by another of Banks’ sworn enemies in Bayley. Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai hold the tag titles that Sasha and Naomi never lost.

They’re megastars, and like it or not WWE often proves to be the best home for them. With WarGames, the Royal Rumble, and WrestleMania, three true spectacles, on the horizon, the idea of their return grows ever more exciting.
