WWE SmackDown Predictions For January 6, 2023: Charlotte Flair Will Get Some Serious Backlash
By Mark Justice
WWE SmackDown is on the road to WWE Royal Rumble 2023. In this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, there are two scheduled matches: Usos (c) vs. Drew McIntyre & Sheamus for the Undisputed Tag Team Titles as well as Ricochet vs. Top Dolla in a Royal Rumble Qualifying Match.
In terms of the upcoming PPV, there is one SmackDown-affiliated match already scheduled in Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight, and it is expected that Gunther (c) vs. Braun Strowman for the Intercontinental Title as well as Karrion Kross vs. Rey Mysterio will be added to the card.
The following will provide some rapid-fire predictions for what should be an exciting show of WWE SmackDown tonight.
WWE SmackDown is scheduled to take place on January 6, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT live on FOX. Here are some predictions for this week’s show.
Usos (c) vs. Drew McIntyre & Sheamus [Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships]
Usos will retain the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus because they will not be losing the belts on some random SmackDown, especially when they have a bigger potential storyline with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, who should be the next tag team champions. That tag title match is currently rumored and planned for WrestleMania, which is when Usos will officially lose the belts. McIntyre and Sheamus could split after this loss and target the Intercontinental Title on the road to WrestleMania instead.
Prediction: Usos
Who is Next For Charlotte Flair? [SmackDown Women’s Title]
Our Raphael Garcia correctly predicted Charlotte Flair to dethrone Ronda Rousey. Now that Charlotte Flair is champion in what was a shocking display on the last SmackDown of 2022, it is now time to determine who is next. Since Royal Rumble is Raquel Rodriguez’s hometown of Texas, it would make sense for her a second shot at the title there. On the other hand, instead of Rousey getting another title rematch, Shayna Baszler can get revenge for Rousey by challenging Charlotte at the Rumble, a PPV where they have history after being the final two at Royal Rumble 2020.
Prediction: Raquel Rodriguez or Shayna Baszler
Ricochet vs. Top Dolla [Royal Rumble Qualifying Match]
Ricochet will defeat Top Dolla in this nonsensical Royal Rumble Qualifying Match. Kofi Kingston already announced himself in the Royal Rumble match a few weeks ago, so it is pretty asinine to book Ricochet and Top Dolla in a Royal Rumble Qualifying Match when Kingston did not need a qualifying match. Nonetheless, Ricochet is a seasoned singles star who needs that exposure in the Royal Rumble whilst Top Dolla is a hot tag who is still too green for that exposure at this point in time. Henceforth, it should be an easy victory for the one and only.
Prediction: Ricochet
