WWE SmackDown Predictions For January 20, 2023: Sami Zayn Will Become Special Guest Referee

WWE SmackDown is on the road to WWE Royal Rumble 2023. In this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, there is one scheduled match: Banger Bros vs. Viking Raiders in Round 1 of the SmackDown Tag Title Number One Contenders Tournament. There is also a scheduled contract signing between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens for their world title match at the Rumble.

In terms of the upcoming PPV, there is one SmackDown-affiliated match already scheduled in Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight in a Pitch Black match, and it is expected that Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey (w/Shayna Baszler) for the SmackDown Women’s Title and Usos (c) vs. Banger Bros for the Undisputed Tag Titles will be added to the card.

The following will provide some rapid-fire predictions for what should be an exciting show of WWE SmackDown tonight.

WWE SmackDown is scheduled to take place on January 20, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT live on FOX. Here are some predictions for this week’s show.

Banger Bros vs. Viking Raiders [SmackDown Tag Title #1C Tournament]

On WWE SmackDown this week, Banger Bros will defeat the Viking Raiders in the SmackDown Tag Title #1C tournament because their tag team name is incredibly over for non-PG reasons and they need revenge for that attack from Viking Raiders after the show last week. They need to redeem themselves from the nefarious loss to the Usos in their tag title match last week as well. This tournament should build them to eventually get that title rematch, where they will have the opportunity to either win or fail to win the titles in a fairer battle.

Prediction: Banger Bros

Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Sonya Deville [SmackDown Women’s Title: Falls Count Anywhere Match]

On WWE SmackDown last week, Charlotte Flair and Sonya Deville had a backstage brawl. Deville already lost to Charlotte in a title match, but she wanted to find a way to frustrate the champion so that she gets another title match. Adam Pearce refused to give Deville a title match since she has done nothing to earn it. However, Charlotte Flair might let her frustrations from that scuffle get the best of her and demand Adam Pearce to make a title rematch official. Due to their backstage brawl, WWE can juice this up by making it a falls count anywhere match.

What Will Go Down In The Contract Signing Between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens? [Main Event Segment]

On WWE SmackDown last week, Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn via disqualification in the main event. As a viewer, it was frustrating to see the main event end in disqualification due to Usos interference. It must have been even more frustrating for Sami Zayn, who was on the verge of ending Owens with a Helluva Kick. WWE needs to find a way for Zayn to let out those frustrations at the Royal Rumble, where Reigns and Owens will go head-to-head for the world title. In the contract signing next week, the stipulation should be Zayn becoming the special guest referee.

Reigns will agree to this because he will want to see where Zayn’s loyalty lies and somehow manipulate Zayn into ruining Owens’ chances of winning the title match there.
