Three matches that would boost the WrestleMania 39 card
WrestleMania 39 will feature the biggest matches the company can put together and these three would fit in the “Show of Shows.”
WrestleMania 39 is coming and the card is taking shape. Even with Elimination Chamber in a few days, fans are speculating about what the full WrestleMania 39 showcase will contain. While some matches are announced, these are three ideas for additional matches that have meaning for this showcase and the immediate future of the WWE.
The Usos versus Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the Undisputed Tag Team Championship
The WWE tag team division has depth but still doesn’t get the presentation that fans of tag team wrestling would like to see. The story of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens finally coming back together to take on The Usos is the opportunity to help alleviate that perception.
While many are pushing for Zayn to be the man to unseat Roman Reigns, they are booked for a singles match at Elimination Chamber. Zayn coming out of that match with the victory seems unlikely, but it could be the moment to help start the build to a big tag team championship match. Zayn and Owens versus the Usos is a big enough deal that it could even headline Night One of WrestleMania 39.
GUNTHER versus Drew McIntyre versus Sheamus for the Intercontinental Championship
GUNTHER is a dominant champion, holding the Intercontinental Championship for 242 days to date. This is on the back of holding the WWE NXT UK Championship for 870 days. WWE has done an excellent job keeping Gunther strong throughout this run and that should continue through WrestleMania 39. But that doesn’t mean he needs to leave the night with the championship around his waist.
Sheamus and Drew McIntyre are an enjoyable duo, formerly known as the “Banger Bros,” but fans know that they always bring the best out of each other when they brawl. Throw Gunther into that equation and there’s an opportunity to create a highly anticipated triple threat for the Intercontinental title. It’s one that could see Sheamus finally winning the one championship that has eluded him, and pinning McIntyre to do it, keeping Gunther strong in the end.
Women’s Tag Team Battle Royale and Tag Team Championship Match
The WWE Women’s tag team division doesn’t get the love that fans wish it received. IYO Sky and Dakota Kai are champions, but they reign over a non-existent division. There’s a lack of teams for them to face, which is a glaring reason why the title has only been defended once since the start of their second run back in November. WrestleMania 39 is an opportunity to help fix that while finding some help within the WWE NXT roster.
Night One of WrestleMania could feature a women’s tag team battle royale, with the winners challenging Kai and Sky on Night Two for their tag team titles. WWE NXT features a stronger women’s division, at least they are presented that way each week. Set the stage for the WWE NXT tag team champions to win the Battle Royale, and face Kai and Sky the next night. The winners combine the titles and WWE finally creates the space where the tag team champs appear on multiple shows, which was the original purpose of the titles.
WrestleMania 39 is sure to be a stacked card that features the top talent in the promotion. These three matches will certainly add depth to what is to be a big, two-night adventure in sports entertainment.
