WWE WrestleMania 39: 3 Possible WrestleMania Opponents for Gunther

WWE WrestleMania 39 is almost one month away, and the WWE has made three matches official for this “premium live event”: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and Bianca Belair (c) vs. Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship. However, an IC Title match has not yet been announced for the champion, Gunther.

The following will provide three possible ‘Mania opponents for Gunther in what should be one of the most exciting PPVs of the year: WWE WrestleMania 39.

WWE WrestleMania 39 is scheduled to take place on April 1 and April 2, 2023, live on Peacock. Here are three possible ‘Mania opponents for Gunther.

3.) Sheamus

Sheamus made it known that he aims to defeat Gunther at WrestleMania to close their long-term trilogy. He lost the title match at Clash at the Castle but got a win back at Extreme Rules in a six-man tag match. Ever since that victory, he hasn’t gotten another title shot. As noted on SmackDown this week, Sheamus is once again feuding with Gunther. WrestleMania is Sheamus’ time to shine, as he can finally achieve his Ultimate Grand Slam and win the only title that has eluded his career.

2.) Drew McIntyre

McIntyre is Sheamus’ tag partner and has been assisting him in fending off Imperium. The first title McIntyre won in his career was the Intercontinental Title, so it must hold some sentimental value in his career. McIntyre also needs to win that title as a consolation prize for losing the world title match to Roman in front of the UK fans at Clash at the Castle. In fact, it has been heavily rumored that a triple threat match with Gunther, McIntyre, and Sheamus will take place at ‘Mania.

1.) Big E

Like McIntyre, the first title Big E won in his career was the Intercontinental Title. However, this would mean even more for Big E since he is recovering from a debilitating neck injury and could really use a big WrestleMania return to redeem himself from his underwhelming world title run. The New Day had feuded with Imperium in 2022 before going to NXT and they can always reignite that faction war to lead to the return of Big E and a huge babyface title victory at ‘Mania 39.
