Hopes abound for a post-WrestleMania push for Chad Gable

Chad Gable is one of the best performers on the WWE roster and fans hope to see him get the opportunity to shine post-WrestleMania. 

WWE has a talented roster from top to bottom. With names like Seth Rollins, Bianca Belair, Carmelo Hayes, Candice LeRae, and others across all the shows – it is hard to see why some struggle to get television time. Yet, there’s one individual who makes the most of every moment he is in front of the camera or in the ring. That individual is Chad Gable and while a fan favorite in many ways, he may be one of the most underrated performers in all of professional wrestling.

Chad Gable may not win many matches, but when he’s on television fans know they are in for a treat. According to Cagematch, Gable’s performances in singles matches are abysmal. In fact, he lost every single televised single match in 2021, went 2-11 in 2022, and is winless in 2023. That’s not the record any performer would want to have.

Yet, Gable continues to excel ins the ring. Whether it’s his comedic abilities to the matches he puts on with his opponents – there’s almost nothing he can’t do in professional wrestling. This year alone he’s had excellent matches against names like Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, while also putting on a comedic-style match with Dexter Lumis, and having big moments against the surging Bronson Reed. And don’t forget about his match against AJ Styles to close out 2022. If WWE wants to highlight a performer with an excellent match on weekly television, Gable is the guy to put them against.

But what is Gable’s ceiling? Of course, he has fans that want to see him pushed to the moon. There were even the “Go to AEW” rumblings that pop up whenever fans see a performer that isn’t utilized to their wishes. In 2021, Dave Meltzer reported that Rhodes, then with AEW, was interested in bringing Gable to the company if the opportunity made itself available.

However, Gable is still a part of the WWE banner and there are thoughts as to how high he can go. If Otis is set for an angle with Maximum Male Models, does that mean Gable is about to be set out on his own path? He immediately becomes an interesting name or the mid-card. Gable could win the King of the Ring, battle for the Intercontinental or United States Championship, or even go back to NXT to compete for the NXT Championship.

WrestleMania season is the focus and Gable as a singles performer doesn’t have much of a place in the narrative. Utilizing him to put on showcase matches is one way to keep him in front of fans and show what he can do. But once the big showcase event comes around, WWE should find a way to elevate Gable in a way becoming of his skills. He’s an individual that has shown he has all the tools to be a top performer for the company if given the opportunity. He doesn’t need to have a year-long reign like other performers, but seeing him rise up the mid-card or even pick up surprising victories would go a long way.

It is usually tough to call a performer underrated when they are in the largest professional wrestling organization in the world. But Chad Gable is one of the rare individuals that checks all the boxes WWE looks for and is one that can put together a run that is Hall of Fame-worthy if he gets the chance to shine.
