Moving Ronda Rousey to the tag division is the right move
Ronda Rousey is a big name on the WWE roster but is struggling to garner interest, so moving her to the tag division is the right step.
WrestleMania is days away and there’s a lot to look forward to on the major show. The women’s division is highlighted with four matches across the two days, but there’s still a lot of apprehension around the build for the group. One interesting development is the inclusion of Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler in the women’s tag team showcase match. This is a big shift from what was originally planned for Rousey and moving her into the tag division is the right decision.
Fightful Select reported that Rousey herself made the push for her and Baszler to officially tag together and move into that division. They’ve been working together on SmackDown for the past few weeks and their history together make this pair perfect.
But it comes at the right time as Rousey’s momentum was dead in the water the minute, she won the 2022 Royal Rumble. Her victory made it clear she was heading back into the title picture, which was a position that many didn’t seem to appreciate. She went from winning the title to a less-than-stellar angle against Liv Morgan to losing the title back to Charlotte Flair. All the while, fans wanted to see more from the rest of the women’s division and less of Rousey.
Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey set to get a big victory
Fast forward to WrestleMania and putting this tag team together is the right move for Rousey, Baszler, and potentially the entire tag team division. Becky Lynch and Lita are the current champions and will be so as they aren’t defending the titles at the PPV. Rousey and Baszler are expected to win the showcase match, making them the number one contenders to the tag titles. WWE has long wanted to get back to Lynch versus Rousey and incorporating that feud into the tag division helps elevate a group that was stifled by mismanagement.
Pairing Rousey and Baszler together also creates the space to get to their eventual feud. As mentioned, the two women have a storied past together both in wrestling and mixed martial arts. Seeing that play out in WWE would be an interesting story, as there are many ways this situation could go. This could especially be a way to elevate Baszler back up the roster, hopefully getting her into the title picture again.
Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler are expected to come out of WrestleMania with a big win as a tag team. Hopefully, this is the first step in many needed to correct the issues facing the women’s tag team division and gives fans yet another reason to watch WWE content each week.
