Two weeks ago, Athena accused Yuka Sakazaki of dodging her by staying Japan. She then challenged her to a title match at ROH’s Supercard of Honor.

On this week’s episode of AEW Dark Elevation, Emi Sakura came out after Athena’s match. She had the title and “The Fallen Goddess” kindly asked for it back. Sakura obliged and then yanked Athena down by her hair. Obviously, this infuriated the champion. She challenged her to a title match for Thursday’s episode. The winner would go on to defend the title on Friday.

Sakura and Athena had an excellent match that drew “this is awesome” chants from the crowd. Sakura is one of the only women who has brought the same amount of intensity and violence to the champion. She was nearly the new ROH champion.

After Athena was able to retain her title, she attacked her opponent as part of her M.O. As she beat up Sakura, familiar music filled the arena. Sakazaki was there and made a beeline straight for the champ. The two women went at it and had to be separated by security.

Sakazaki is going to be a great opponent for Athena. She’s quick and agile but also hits hard. Although Athena is the one who laid down the challenge, she can’t underestimate “The Magical Girl”. She is a real threat and could potentially be the one to dethrone the champion.

Athena has been one of ROH’s strongest women’s champions in company history and has certainly made her mark in the current era of ROH. She has been a fighting champion since Final Battle and after her win on Thursday, she earned her 16th consecutive victory.

Supercard of Honor will be live from L.A. on Friday, March 31 at 7 PM ET/ 4 PM PT. It will air on Bleacher/Report.
