IYO Sky should have a major run as a singles star in 2023

As the 2023 WWE Draft has concluded, the faction Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY) will all switch brands and will now be on Friday Night Smackdown. 

Almost a month ago on Monday Night Raw, SKY participated in a triple threat match that would decide the number one contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship. In that match, SKY defeated both Piper Niven and Michin to get a future shot at Belair’s title.

Although after the match, Bayley and Kai celebrated SKY’s huge win, Bayley’s response had a sense of jealousy behind it. Even though they’re on the same brand, it is looking like the trip may not be together for too long.

If that is indeed where the story is headed, the former NXT Women’s Champion SKY deserves a huge run on Smackdown as a solo superstar.

It is time for Damage CTRL’s IYO SKY to have a major singles run

This Saturday at WWE Backlash, SKY has an opportunity to dethrone Belair and end her nearly 400-day reign as the Raw Women’s Champion. The women’s division on the main roster has been centered around Belair, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Asuka for a while. It would be nice to see some more fresh faces in the women’s championship mix. Even if she doesn’t defeat Belair at WWE Backlash, SKY has earned the respect of the WWE Universe and has fortuitously become a babyface, while still being in a heel trio.

The great thing about is win or lose, SKY and Belair will be a fantastic match and it will instantly put SKY in the mix at the top of the women’s division. I believe she will also be a favorite to win the Women’s Money in The Bank as well after her match on Saturday.

“The Genius of The Sky” was a top star on NXT and is quickly working her way up the ranks on the main roster. WWE hasn’t executed the best at pushing superstars while they’re hot, but hopefully, they can handle this push with SKY correctly. Obviously, in a way that doesn’t take away from the EST of the WWE as well.

Hopefully, this match doesn’t end with Bayley or Kai costing SKY the match, and that initiates their breakup, That would be a lazy way to end this trio, but it would be a story that has been repeated countless times in history. Give us a great match and let SKY cook. Win or lose, she gets the push she rightfully deserves.
