As we get closer to NXT Battleground, we are also getting closer to crowning a new NXT Women’s Champion.

The single-elimination tournament for the belt — created in the wake of Indi Hartwell relinquishing the title — has reached the semifinals, which will take place on the May 23 episode of NXT. Roxanne Perez will face recent rival Tiffany Stratton in the first matchup and Cora Jade will take on Lyra Valkyria in the other.

In addition to these matches continuing the longstanding feuds between these four, they also highlight who’s at the top of the pecking order in the NXT women’s division.

As such, most fans wouldn’t mind seeing any of these NXT stars win the tournament, but there are good arguments for and against each of them.

So, before these ladies wage battle over the right to advance to the finals, let’s discuss what makes them, respectively, good candidates to win the tournament and what could potentially disqualify them.

The point of this isn’t to pick who will win nor to sway you in a specific direction in terms of who your favorite should be. Instead, it’s an attempt to figure out how WWE sees each of these ladies and how that correlates to the possibility of any of them walking out of Battleground with the NXT Women’s Title.
