WWE SmackDown Predictions: Sheamus Will Turn Heel on Edge

WWE SmackDown is continuing its road to WWE PayBack 2023, which already has a plethora of rumored blockbuster matches. On this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Edge chose to battle Sheamus for his 25th WWE Anniversary Match. In terms of segments, new U.S. Champion Rey Mysterio will be featured on the Grayson Waller Effect, where it is expected that Mysterio will tease a future title match with Santos Escobar before Austin Theory interrupts to get his title rematch. Mysterio could very well choose Escobar to be his first challenger for the title out of respect for him earning it in the tournament, but Theory won’t take too kindly to that, obviously.

In other news regarding WWE SmackDown, Jey Uso abruptly quit WWE last week, which throws a wrench into any plans for Jimmy Uso to battle Jey Uso at PayBack. There are now rumors about them holding off on their match until WrestleMania 40. Also, Iyo Sky is a big red target on SmackDown with the world championship in her grasp, especially after she interfered in the WrestleMania 34 rematch between Asuka and Charlotte on SmackDown last week. Not to mention, Shotzi Blackheart is still lurking in the shadows, itching for revenge on Damage Control.

With that being said, the following will focus on the scheduled WWE Anniversary match between Edge and Sheamus on the road to WWE PayBack 2023.

WWE SmackDown is scheduled to take place on August 18, 2023, live on FOX, and Sheamus will turn heel on Edge en route to WWE PayBack 2023.

Edge vs. Sheamus [25th Anniversary Match]

Edge will defeat Sheamus since it is his 25th Anniversary Match. This is merely a means to commemorate Edge’s HOF career while also elevating Sheamus in the process. Sheamus has lost a lot of momentum lately and a potential feud with Edge could really help him regain the momentum he lost. However, the fact this is a babyface vs. babyface bout is too good to be true. After Sheamus loses this match, he and the Brawling Brutes will viciously attack Edge like wild hyenas to set up a rematch at either WWE PayBack 2023 or a future PLE.

This would make a ton of sense, especially since Sheamus and the Brawling Brutes already teased a feud with a babyface faction in AJ Styles and The O.C. Sheamus has been outspoken in a plethora of interviews about how the Brawling Brutes are not receiving the recognition they deserve. This epic heel turn on a Hall of Famer would do wonders for their careers, put more of the spotlight on them, and elevate them to that next level. Besides, due to the dissension of the Bloodline leaving a gap on SmackDown, more heel factions like Brawling Brutes are needed on the blue brand.
