Bayley versus IYO Sky is the story to tell right now
Bayley versus Iyo Sky is the story to tell right now for the WWE Women’s Championship.
Things have been going well for Bayley and Damage CTRL for quite some time now.
Ever since they shocked the WWE Universe at last year’s SummerSlam, Damage CTRL has dominated the women’s division. As a result, the trio of Bayley, Iyo Sky, and Dakota Kai have become the most dominant female faction in professional wrestling today, perhaps of all time.
Although Bayley hasn’t captured a championship since forming this faction, the duo of Sky and Kai have won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships twice. In addition to that, Sky has added a Money in The Bank win to her résumé and is currently in her first reign as WWE Women’s Champion.
The fact is, Bayley didn’t need a title to lead her team. She has already been the NXT Women’s Champion, Raw Women’s Champion, and SmackDown Women’s Champion (twice). This new group was created to bring some depth to the women’s division and build up two new future champions.
At Survivor Series, the storyline will take its shape and will likely show what the future holds for both Bayley and Sky. It has been teased on and off ever since Sky won her Money in The Bank contract that Bayley would be the demise of Sky’s title hopes.
Instead, a year since returning with Bayley, Sky cashed in on Bianca Belair to win the WWE Women’s Champion three months ago at SummerSlam. Since becoming champion, Sky has emerged as the leader of the group, and after what transpired at Crown Jewel, it appears Sky has plans of her own that don’t align with Bayley’s.
As we’ve seen, Bayley is confused and has no idea what is going on here. Sky is showing she no longer needs her and can handle things on her own accord. If things weren’t already out of control enough, during the main event of Friday Night SmackDown last week, another member joined Damage CTRL and set up WarGames at Survivor Series, which also caught Bayley off guard.
While everything seems to be peachy right now, they won’t be for long. Eventually, Bayley will get jealous of Sky and this newfound independence. Once she has had enough, she will turn on her faction teammate and challenge her for the title.
Whether she wins or loses that match with Sky is irrelevant, but the match/feud itself should and will happen. This could be a match that takes place as soon as the Royal Rumble, or it can wait until WrestleMania, but it has to be on a big stage. This is the kind of feud that WWE is missing right now in the women’s division and it is on the horizon. This is the story to tell right now in the WWE.
