3 interesting matches for Pentagon in WWE
After what some would consider an “underwhelming” WWE Monday Night Raw debut on Netflix. The January 13 edition of the show is expected to be “back to business” in many ways. WWE has been on an upswing when it comes to its creative product, and this upcoming episode has a big moment planned. The speculation is that Pentagon will make his debut to take on Chad Gable. Pentagon joining WWE was one of the major talking points throughout the end of 2024, and now that it is seemingly here, there are some interesting matches awaiting the luchador.
Pentagon vs Rey Mysterio
Now, before people cross their arms at the idea of Triple H pitting Latino wrestlers against each other out of laziness, Pentagon versus Rey Mysterio makes a lot of sense. The two men have years of history against each other. According to Cagematch, the two men have battled 14 times, with Mysterio winning 10 of those matches. The catch is that they’ve never battled in singles competition. Mysterio is recognized as one of the most important wrestlers of all time, a legend of not just lucha libre, but all professional wrestling. Pentagon hunting down Mysterio to take that legacy would be a great way to start off his run in WWE. Plus, WWE could also get some matches out of Penta and Dragon Lee during this angle as well.
Pentagon vs Finn Balor
While Finn Balor hasn’t reverted to The Demon gimmick – for the better in the eyes of some – it would be interesting to see what a match between that version of him and Pentagon would look like in the arms of WWE’s production team. The in-ring action itself would be great, both Balor and Pentagon are more than capable performers bell to bell. But what story would they tell as Balor leans into his altar ego and Pentagon reminds everyone why Kenny Omega described him as “the crazy guy from Mexico.” This would be a fun, one-off feud to explore.
Pentagon vs Pete Dunne
Pentagon versus Pete Dunne would be a fun match. There doesn’t need to be a long, drawn-out story to build around, just let these two men step into the ring to entertain. It would be fun in both a pro wrestling and sports entertainment aspect to watch how their styles mesh, as they both use a move set that tends to focus on joint manipulation. Again, this would be nothing more than something to get fans excited about during a one-off night of Monday Night Raw.
