3 international destinations for WWE PLEs
The professional wrestling business is booming. Many account that to the establishment and growth of All Elite Wrestling. Others will argue it’s because Vince McMahon is finally being pushed out of WWE. Regardless of the idea why, the point still remains that WWE is moving like a tidal wave. One such parameter has been the success that WWE has made with international shows. Looking at where the company has been in recent months, here are three locations that would be great sites for PLEs in the months and years to come.
Mexico City, Mexico
It’s surprising that WWE has never made a stop in Mexico City. In fact, many United States-based combat sports organizations struggle with the idea of going south of the border. It’s a major city, and combat sports are popular in the country and with the Mexican people. Professional wrestling is also huge in that country. Look at how well organizations like AAA or CMLL thrive with massive shows there.
WWE could do the same. They may not pack out one of the soccer venues in the country, but there are still other big arenas that could hold a PPV. Couple that with the packed roster of Latino men and women, there’s more than enough performers to feature on such a show. Going to Mexico City would be big deal for the WWE.
Tokyo, Japan
There’s no need to debate the importance of professional wrestling in Japan. New Japan Pro Wrestling stands out as one of the most important promotions in the world. Even with that company at the top of the heap, there are several others thriving in Japan like Stardom, DDT Pro-Wrestling, and Dragon Gate. WWE has recently worked with Pro Wrestling Noah, sharing talent. There’s an opportunity to leverage these ties to put on a great show in Japan.
WWE could easily put on a big show in Japan with some of the best talent in the world. They’ve toured in the country before, but changes in business practices set the foundation for inter-promotional shows that would excite fans from start to finish.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Brazil is another country that is ripe with ties to combat sports. WWE’s sister organization, the UFC, frequently travels to this South American country, bringing out hordes of fans. Pro wrestling may not have the same strength of following in that country, but it would be interesting to see WWE bring a well-built PLE to Brazil.
