WrestleMania 41 is a few weeks away. Momentum for the show is gearing up, with John Cena’s heel turn nearly pushing things over the top. There are several angles to look forward to, including Cena versus Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins vs CM Punk, Bianca Belair vs IYO Sky, and many more. But there are some important individuals who are without strong direction heading into the show of shows. Here are three names or groups that lack creative direction at the biggest time of the year.
Roman Reigns
Where does Roman Reigns fit in the WrestleMania 41 picture? Reigns holds the record for the most WrestleMania main events, yet it looks like he doesn’t truly have a place this year. Both titles are tied up in major feuds, so he’s not needed there. Punk versus Rollins was already hot, and although there was early speculation that WWE was planning for a triple threat, trying to push Reigns into that angle is unnecessary at this point. Would it be a great match? Sure, but one that isn’t required from a storytelling position.
It's hard to see this PLE occurring and Roman Reigns not being involved in some fashion. How does that happen? Well, that’s a big question that needs to be answered.
The Tag Team Division
The WWE tag team division needs some promotion. For years, that group has played second fiddle to the main championships, and they continue to while under Triple H’s creative direction. Things seem to be improving, as the Motor City Machine Guns and DIY had a tag team title match at the Royal Rumble, ending a long drought of PLEs without tag title defenses. But there’s still work to be done.
With the WrestleMania 41 card already filling up, it’s hard to see where one, let alone two title matches, could occur. The War Raiders are doing great work on Monday Night Raw, as is DIY on SmackDown, but neither team feels like enough of a focal point to justify a major tag match on the PLE.
Carmelo Hayes
Fans expected Carmelo Hayes to be a standout performer when he made the move from WWE NXT to the main roster. While he still has hordes of fans and excels in the ring, he’s yet to get a breakthrough moment like some of his peers who’ve recently made the jump. He’s currently in an angle where he’s working toward another shot at the WWE United States Championship, but it’s hard to see WWE putting that or any other main roster title around his waist anytime soon. He’ll probably be involved in a multi-man match at WrestleMania 41, but that’s well below expectations compared to where he was before the call-up.
