An Adam Pearce vs. Nick Aldis Captained WarGames Could Revitalize the Concept

Raw versus SmackDown isn't a new idea, but in 2025 there's a chance to add a spark to Survivor Series.

For four years now, the WarGames match has been a part of the Survivor Series PLE on the main roster. It was used in NWA and WCW from 1987 until 2000 before making a return in NXT from 2017 until 2021. When the match first arrived on the main roster, it was praised heavily. However, the last couple of years have shown that the whole concept has been played out. With the same people in the matches nearly every year, things have gotten predictable. Having Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis get a say in the match could help the match become popular again.

The WarGames concept itself isn’t the problem for most fans, the lead up to the match is. Take this year's nearly completed lineup, for example. Iyo Sky and Jey Uso have been in every single main roster WarGames match. Uso’s team is nearly identical to last year, simply swapping Sami Zayn for Cody Rhodes. Asuka and Rhea Ripley will be in their third match for the women, while Drew McIntyre, Jimmy Uso, and Rhodes will be in their third match for the men. It’s obvious WarGames is being created around them instead of the competitors having genuine stories to make WarGames possible.

One big way to remedy the situation is to leave everything up to Pearce and Aldis. As the General Managers of Raw and SmackDown, they oversee everything that happens on a weekly basis. They should be the ones determining WarGames, just like NXT legends and John Cena this year do for Deadline. Doing so ensures that both brands get to shine equally in the double ringed steel cage. It would also bring back the classic brand rivalry that so many people loved. Having them select the competitors gives others a chance to fight in WarGames instead of the same group of people every year.

Another reason why that might work is that instead of working together, they’ll be forced into competition with each other. Many fans have wanted a Pearce vs. Aldis match ever since the latter arrived to the company. Both of them are still fairly young wrestling wise, and they both haven’t been out of the ring for that long. Pearce had his last match in 2014, while Aldis had his last match months before signing with WWE. The two of them know that fans want them to have a match against each other. Pitting them against each other could be the first step to that match happening.

The WarGames match on the main roster started out with lots of excitement. Fans were glad that the concept was finally there after years of competitors battling it out on NXT. However, the excitement has hit a stopping point in recent years. With more and more wrestlers competing in WarGames more than once, things have gotten predictable. Having Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis pick the competitors next year would get the excitement back for the match. It will allow brand on brand fighting to be a central concept, as well as potentially teasing a match between them.
