At 31 years old, WWE needs to decide what it wants to do with Trick Williams. While his run as TNA Champion was enjoyable, he's been treading water in NXT since losing his NXT Championship for the second time.
Williams, who faced Ricky Saints at Halloween Havoc, was never a true contender to win the title. If anything, Shawn Michaels wanted to give him one last title match before he was sent off to the main roster for good.
Trick Williams Needs To Be Called Up
NXT's Ricky Saints now has wins over Oba Femi and Trick Williams, two of the defining stars in NXT's men's division. It's a division that lacks depth, but it's one that Williams carried on his back for years. After Carmelo Hayes passed the torch to his former tag partner, Williams took NXT by storm.
The TNA/NXT partnership kept Williams busy as he enjoyed 140 days as TNA World Champion. That reign was just ended by Mike Santana at Bound For Glory, TNA's biggest show of the year. After losing the TNA title, it seemed like Williams' work in NXT was done.
For whatever reason, they decided to keep him around for a bit longer. His match with Saints was what it was, but there's no reason to keep Williams in NXT any longer. WWE has struggled with this in the past, but after everything he's done in NXT, why is there no room for him on the main roster?
Trick Williams Main Roster Debut
One of the easiest ways to debut Williams on the main roster would be for him to challenge Ilja Dragunov for the United States Championship. Those two have quite the history with one another, including Williams finally getting the better of Dragunov at Spring Breakin' in 2024.
It's hard to pick Williams' best NXT match, but his unsuccessful challenge against Dragunov at Vengeance Day might top the list. Both of his matches with Hayes were a little underwhelming, but Ilja brought out the best in Trick.
While it would be such a WWE decision to debut him on the main roster for an open challenge and then do absolutely nothing else with him, it would at least get him out of his seemingly never ending cycle at NXT.
Williams has been working in NXT since 2021. He's had appearances on 205 Live, Main Event, and even NXT Level Up. Clearly, he's done everything imaginable, and there's no reason to keep him stuck in NXT any longer.
