The WWE Speed Championship was first established for the WWE Speed show on X back in April of 2024. The show produced reigns from Ricochet, Andrade, and Dragon Lee. The current champion, El Grande Americano, won it in May. The show on X was cancelled in July, leaving the status of the belt up in the air. It was announced at NXT Heatwave the next month that the belt would be defended on NXT. A tournament was held over the past couple of weeks to determine the number one contender to El Grande, which was won by Jasper Troy. Next week, the battle will finally take place. Regarding the potential result, Troy should be the next WWE Speed Champion.

When Troy walks out to the ring, there is one thing that immediately stands out to people. His massive size dwarfs a lot of other wrestlers in the men’s division. Like Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Oba Femi, he has used his size and strength to his advantage in matches. Effortlessly displaying his power has led to impressive victories in the number one contender’s tournament. He beat Zachary Wentz in the semi-finals and Axiom in the finals with ease. Having him lose after putting on such an impressive performance would be a waste of talent, especially since he ran the ladder with such dominance.

There’s also another thing about Troy that is impressive. He was the season one male winner of WWE LFG. Coached by Booker T, he showed lots of potential throughout the season, with WWE management clearly convinced that he could be a future star in NXT. Last month, there were mass releases from LFG and Evolve. Many people were convinced that the shows were a failure. Having Troy win the Speed Championship could give those people hope that someone from LFG or Evolve could be successful. He’s already been hyped up for several months now. A championship win is what he needs to silence the doubters.

A final advantage for Troy is the fact that he is a homegrown talent. Currently, a lot of champions like Ricky Saints, Blake Monroe, and Ethan Page have come to NXT with prior experience. Troy, however, was signed by WWE from college football. He reported to the Performance Center in 2022 and has been working hard to get to NXT ever since. With WWE focusing on signing people with prior experience, along with the recent releases, homegrown talent haven’t been getting the spotlight they deserve. A win for Troy could bring about a much-needed Performance Center success story.

Next week will be an important one for the WWE Speed Championship. For the first time since the move to NXT, the belt will be defended by El Grande Americano. He’ll face an imposing challenger in Jasper Troy. El Grande will probably have Bravo and Rayo with him, but that’s no problem for Troy. He’s already shown how strong and powerful he is, so he’ll probably squash them with ease. Winning the belt is a must for him. His journey to the match was an easy one, so a loss would be a mistake. Him being the LFG season one male winner and a homegrown talent, along with his size and strength, makes him the perfect candidate to become WWE Speed Champion.
