One of the most heated feuds on the main roster today is between Becky Lynch and Maxxine Dupri. As the Women’sIntercontinental Champion, Lynch has gotten a lot of attention from the Monday Night Raw women’s division. One such person has been Dupri. For weeks now, she has been seeking the Women’s IC title for herself. Since then, she has had to put up with a barrage of abuse from Lynch, who doesn’t think she is worthy to challenge for the title. They have had three matches for the belt so far, one back in August and two just last month. Lynch retained in their first battle, but a count out and disqualification have kept Dupri coming back for more. Now with their third fight on the horizon in just seven weeks, now is the time for Dupri to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
There’s no question that Dupri is being positioned as the underdog in this feud. Lynch has been piling on insult after insult over the last few weeks as an attempt to derail her confidence. She wants Dupri to feel weak when the match happens next week so she can get an easy victory. But she doesn’t know her opponent very well. When the count out victory happened, the crowd erupted at Dupri’s performance. For years, she was stuck as the manager of the Alpha Academy. Now that she finally showed fans her talent, they are firmly behind her. She also has Akira Tozawa and Otis by her side to provide moral support as she prepares for the match. Her winning would be a great payoff to the hard work she has put in to become a major part of the women’s division.
For Lynch, the match is a walk in the park. She invites this match to see her suffer during a quick victory. But there’s an obstacle in Lynch’s path that will take her on a different, but necessary, road. Survivor Series: WarGames takes place two weeks from Saturday. TheWarGames matches are always 5 on 5, but the Women’s WarGames match only has four people on it so far. There’s one woman that has a problem with Lynch that hasn’t been seen for nearly two months. WrestlePalooza saw AJ Lee and CM Punk beat her and Seth Rollins. But not a lot of offense was shown by the two women, and it’s clear they want to fight some more. Having a returning Lee cost Lynch the belt could automatically plug them into the Women’s WarGames match. That will ensure that they will get another chance to battle each other.
There is a lot riding on the match next week for both women. Dupri wants to prove to everyone that she can be a champion. Lynch wants to extinguish her fire for good and continue to hold the title. But a Dupri win is a necessary move to progress both of their stories forward. She will complete the underdog story, as she has had to put up with Lynch’s abuse for weeks. Despite that, she has never backed down from challenging her. Lynch would be put into the Women’s WarGames match by a returning Lee. She’ll lose her title but will be a central part of WWE’s next PLE. There are two spots remaining, and both of those women fit perfectly into the match. A Dupri victory will be good for both her and Lynch by giving them immediate storylines that will take them on their next journeys.
