WWE has something special in Oba Femi. The Lagos, Nigeria native has held the WWE NXT Championship for 232 days as of this writing. That comes on the heels of a 273-day run as NXT North American Champion. He’s a force. A believable force. As fans look forward to his arrival on the main roster, it is imperative that Triple H books him with respect to his presentation in NXT. He should go above and beyond because Femi is a talent that fans are ready to get behind in a major way.
WWE Heatwave 2025 was the forgotten card over the weekend. With AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door happening Saturday afternoon, it was easy to forget about the NXT PLE on Sunday. The card wasn’t spectacular, but that didn’t stop the performers from putting on a show.
That is especially true with what Je’Von Evans and Oba Femi did in the main event. For 17 minutes they put on a classic in NXT, one of the best title matches in recent memory. Femi walked out with the championship, but Evans became a made man in NXT terms. He’ll be champion one day, and fans are hoping he becomes a star on the main roster.
But this is about Oba Femi. Viewers are questioning who the man is to defeat him and take that title. The answer is: no one. Femi should get special treatment to close out his time in NXT and welcome him to the main roster.
Think back to 2017. Asuka was riding a 510-day run as NXT Women’s Champion. At NXT TakeOver Brooklyn III in August of that year, she’d defeat ATHENA (then known as Ember Moon) to retain the championship. WWE did the smart thing, allowing her to vacate the title to move to the main roster, presenting her as an immediate danger to all the women on the roster.
This isn’t a call for him to go on a run that lasts 500 days, but the precedent is there that Femi could leave NXT without ever dropping that championship. It looks like Ricky Saints is the next man up, and while it would make sense that he topples The Ruler, think about how strong Femi would look walking into WWE Monday Night Raw or SmackDown as the undefeated champion.
Oba Femi should have a long undefeated streak on the main roster
Then, what happens when he gets there? Well. There’s precedence there as well. Remember GUNTHER’s historic run as Intercontinental Champion? Well, Femi should get similar treatment, but with the WWE United States Championship instead.
One guess as to who holds the longest reign as the US Champion. Some guy by the name of Dean Ambrose. That’s right, the great Jon Moxley has a reign that was 351 days. He’s ironically followed by another former, now AEW standout, MVP. WWE would be excited to break that record with a homegrown talent, and Oba Femi is the perfect man to do that. Imagine him walking into SmackDown and taking that title from whoever holds it on day one. Establishing himself as a force that will dominate the main roster for years to come.
WWE fans are watching closely to see how Triple H books Oba Femi when he reaches the main roster. His presentation on NXT has been special from the start. That has to be the course of action when he leaves because anything less than that is going to come with massive criticism.
