WWE NXT is a great option for main roster wrestlers looking for an opportunity to do something different. It’s an alternative to sitting in catering, which many find themselves doing each week. That is what’s going on with Ashante Adonis and it’s going to be a great move for both the current and future of his career.

Adonis is one of those performers who had a budding following but was never given the chance to be more than a background character. When he was introduced as a member of Hit Row, he was expected to be that workhorse performer who gets the most in-ring action and probably takes most of the pins when needed. That never truly came to fruition as that group was quickly disbanded and the rest is history.

But with Adonis back on NXT, there’s a chance to see him gain some momentum as a character, while also showing on the in-ring abilities many have touted online. In many ways, he’s playing a character similar to what Shawn Michaels did during the early days of the “Heartbreak Kid.” Is it cringy that NXT once again goes with a character based mostly on lust? Sure, but there’s a strong chance that Adonis will do something different and interesting in this role.

The real intrigue is with the in-ring opportunities. There are some big matches to see for Adonis in NXT. He’s only had two quick matches on NXT television so far but got him in there to work with individuals like Axiom, Nathan Frazer, Charlie Dempsey, and perhaps an eventual feud against Cedric Alexander. Adonis should be a featured part of the mid-card and he could even be an eventual challenger to the NXT North American Championship.

WWE NXT is not only introducing wrestling fans to a list of potential stars for the future, but this brand is also the place to go for main roster performers looking to reinvent themselves. That’s the position that Ashante Adonis finds himself in and here’s to hoping that opportunity is properly utilized.
