There is a hot debate going on in the WWE pertaining to which match should be the main event of WWE Bad Blood 2024. In fact, Fightful Select has recently reported that the internal plan is to have Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes vs. The Bloodline as the main event of the show. However, USA Network recently published an article stating that the Hell in a Cell match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre would be the main event. As of this writing, the final decision on the main event has not yet been made. The following will pontificate why CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre should headline Bad Blood.

Why CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Should Headline Bad Blood

On October 5, 1997, Bad Blood featured Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell in the main event. That match was the first ever Hell in a Cell in WWE history and its 27-year anniversary will be this Saturday, October 5, 2024. Since CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre is the only Hell in a Cell Match on the card this year, it is wise to have the Hell in a Cell match close out the show, much like it did at the inaugural Bad Blood event. This would be a compelling way to honor the legacy of the PPV as well as the wrestlers in that inaugural Hell in a Cell Match who paved the way for the superstars of today.

Furthermore, Punk vs. McIntyre has undoubtedly been the best storyline in pro wrestling this year. For years, WWE fans have complained about Hell in a Cell Matches being just an annual gimmicked event in WWE, rather than being a match that should have meaning and be utilized to end long-term feuds. WWE finally has a long-term feud this year that deserves a Hell in a Cell Match. Not only did Punk and McIntyre make this feud personal since WrestleMania season with the bracelet and plethora of title match screw-jobs but they also made the fans truly believe that they hate each other.

Now that technological advancement and the flow of information have been expedited in the modernized world we inhabit, kayfabe in pro wrestling has died slowly. There have been so many complaints from fans about feuds no longer feeling legit and characters not feeling authentic to the point that fans have gradually felt disconnected from current-day storylines and wrestling matches. CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre directly negated those complaints like a lightning bolt on a totem pole by delivering a storyline trilogy that no one will ever forget in this brand-new era of the WWE under HHH.

If WWE decides to not main event the show with this storyline-driven Hell in a Cell Match, it would be a major miss, especially since it's destined to steal the show no matter where it's placed on the card. The other matches would merely suffer if they have to follow Punk vs. McIntyre on this card.

Why Roman & Cody vs. Bloodline Should Not Headline Bad Blood

According to PWInsider’s update, “certain circles” within WWE have been pushing for Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes to headline the event. It is understandable that hometown pride plays a factor here, as Atlanta, Georgia is Cody's hometown and is the city where Roman Reigns played college football. However, hometown pride should not usurp superior storytelling as a major factor in determining the main event of a pro wrestling PPV. Not to mention, Cody Rhodes and especially Roman Reigns already had a ton of main events in the past two or three years. It's time to switch gears.

Cody Rhodes & Roman Reigns vs. Bloodline could feasibly provide a hot start to this PPV for the hometown crowd and take a backseat to the actual main event that not just the crowd in Atlanta, Georgia but also the entire WWE Universe is actually anticipating. Besides, this entire Cody Rhodes & Bloodline saga has been going on for so long that it has run stale in the eyes of the common viewer. That storyline does not need another main event when it's likely already destined for many more main events on the road to WrestleMania 41. This tag match also lacks stakes worthy of a main event.

This tag match is merely a means to an end at Survivor Series, where Cody, Roman, and R-KO will battle Bloodline inside War Games. This is not a feud-ender, like Punk vs. McIntyre. Once this tag match is complete, WWE will continue telling this story for another six months. When Punk and McIntyre are finished tearing each other apart inside that sinister structure, their feud is finished and they will go their separate ways. These two made magic, and they won't have another opportunity to put this beautiful storyline in the spotlight unless they get this main event at WWE Bad Blood 2024.

Consequently, CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre should HEADLINE Bad Blood. It is not only a better business decision that will be beneficial to the flow of the show as a whole but is more importantly best for professional wrestling in the grander schemes of long-term booking and storytelling.
