Even with a stacked tag team roster, the division needs better booking in WWE

WWE has made it known that their intentions are to show more attention to the tag team division, but it still needs better booking.

WWE has shown efforts towards elevating their tag team division and even more recently factions as well. Quickly into the new era in WWE, we received revamped Tag Team Championships, and they were once again split up on both Raw and Smackdown. The new look was expected to signal a new era of building the tag team division. That's just on the men's side.

On the women's side, since Naomi and Mercedes Mone (formerly known as Sasha Banks) walked out of WWE because of their refusal to showcase the women's tag division, they vowed to do better. Thus far, neither the men's nor women's tag division has been truly shown the attention it should, and that doesn't reflect how stacked the tag division in WWE currently is.

First, let's address the current status of the men's tag team division. DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) hold the WWE Tag Team Championships, and Finn Balor and JD McDonagh hold the World Tag Team Championships. Granted, they both are new champions and have both only been so for a few weeks, but notice neither team is booked in any way for SummerSlam? DIY is set to put the titles on the line and face Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu on Friday on Smackdown, but why not a day later on the major PLE of the summer? Wouldn't that be a perfect opportunity to showcase your tag team division? This isn't the first time either, there were no tag title matches at Money In The Bank either.

The women's tag team division is so inconspicuous right now that it almost seems as if we're headed toward a women's trio title instead. The current WWE Women's Tag Team Champions are Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre, who just defended their titles at NXT Great American Bash on Tuesday against Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson. Although it was a huge opportunity for Legend and Jackson, but it did nothing to elevate the current champions or the titles. Not to mention, the champions have barely been on their own brand Raw for a couple of weeks now. WWE appeared to be gaining some traction with the women's titles when Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair won the titles. They could've been a dominant force with the titles and held them for a while until the eventual heel turn by one of them. Instead, they hold the titles for 42 days.

When it comes to the gauntlet matches for number one contenders, that is a great way to showcase how great the tag team division truly is. We see it on all three brands, and the matches are always fantastic. But, why not do those at a PLE? There are so many great tag teams right now including The Street Profits, DIY, Pretty Deadly, The Bloodline, The Creed Brothers, The Wyatt Sicks (pick any two), Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler, Damage CTRL (pick any two), and many more. The lack of storylines also isn't helping promote the stacked tag team division either. I would argue the last time we had a real storyline in the tag division was when The Usos' reign ended at WrestleMania last year.

With such a stacked tag team division, they deserve better storylines, and more opportunities on the PLE's. This has been a problem for quite a while, and while at times it feels like it is being addressed, we always end up back at square one. As I mentioned earlier, it almost appears more attention is on factions as of late than traditional tag teams. We could be in the midst of a trios title coming to fruition. If we aren't, it is imperative for WWE to put more focus on the division and give them more opportunities on the bigger stage to showcase their stacked tag team division.
