Finn Balor must get one run at the top of WWE Raw
When talking about WWE roster members who should get their time in the spotlight, Finn Balor is one who frequently comes up. Everyone recognizes the greatness of The Prince, but he’s treated like a role player who can come off the bench and get valuable minutes, never the guy to build around. That needs to change as once again he’s involved in a key storyline on Monday Night Raw.
Balor is now locked in an angle against Damian Priest. The new look Judgment Day is poised to make the former champion’s life hell every Monday. It’s going to be a fun battle, one in which Priest will come out on top. He’s a newly established babyface and it looks like WWE is poised to throw its promotional weight behind him – and rightly so.
But Finn Balor is ice-cold in everything that he does. In an industry where the “cool heel” continues to find themselves at the top of promotions, few are cooler than Balor. Look all the way back to when he was forming The Bullet Club in New Japan. It was his energy that made it such a fantastic group that thrived through iterations long after he left. Many consider his return to WWE NXT some of his best work in the entire company. He thrived in that role and did some excellent work during the latter years of the Black & Gold Brand. Finn Balor can really do it all and it’s time that WWE gave him that space to do so on the main roster.
Not only is it important to recognize what Balor can do in the ring and as a character, but he’s a model personality outside of it as well. Balor has consistently shown his support for marginalized groups around the world, which is important in a society that continues to grow in diversity every day. Balor, and Endeavor as a whole, continue to look for people who can be elevated into mainstream stars. Finn Balor checks all those boxes.
WWE’s main event picture is stacked. It’s hard to see how Balor can rise on Raw as the picture continues to form around individuals like GUNTHER, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Damian Priest. At 43 years old, WWE is running out of time, even though Balor continues to look like he’s found a way to defy Father Time. As the clock ticks away, Triple H and company must find a way to get Balor into the spotlight and put a championship around his waist one last time.
