Let’s have a conversation about perception and things having a “time and a place.” Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan are wrapped in arguably the biggest angle on WWE Raw. Morgan is attempting to ruin everything Ripley has built after the latter injured her and turned on her previously. It’s a storyline that has rave reviews by many, while also raising the eyebrows of others. This is because it is drawing parallels to the lawsuit brought by former WWE employee, Janel Grant, against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and the company. It’s a conversation worth having on several different levels.

Grant’s lawsuit against the named parties alleges heinous acts of sexual abuse and trafficking. Since the January 25 revelation, several harrowing details have come out about Grant’s accusations against McMahon and Laurinaitis while working at the WWE. McMahon has tried to defend himself publicly by painting Grant as a scorned former lover and willing participant.

Since the lawsuit came out, WWE has hit its stride with momentum that has pushed the company to new business heights. Yet, that hasn’t stopped media members from asking individuals within the company about the accusations and McMahon directly. When Triple H was asked questions about the situation during such an exchange, he claimed he’d never read the lawsuit. That’s right. He responded that he’s never read the lawsuit that involves the company where he’s in a powerful leadership position, his father-in-law, and the grandfather to his children. It’s a stance that many have questioned, but his official response to the question when asked.

That brings the conversation around to the angle involving Morgan, Ripley, and Dominick Mysterio. It’s one in which Morgan is dead set on ruining everything Ripley has established. Morgan has the title Ripley never lost. There are hints of her working with Finn Balor to cause change in Judgment Day. Plus, Morgan’s continued to chip away at Mysterio’s on-screen love for Ripley. But it’s the way she’s gone about that latter one that has caused people to show concern.

Aggressive could be a term used to describe how Morgan has pursued Mysterio. He used every form of “no” possible when Morgan first started her advances. Yet, she continued to chase him every week. She took it as far as to involve social media and any other form of communication possible. She wouldn’t take “no” for an answer, eventually whittling Mysterio’s resolve down to the point where he is today. This is close to how McMahon has described Grant in his public statements since the allegations have come out. He’s attempted to paint her in an aggressive light, chasing him time and time again.

Then there was the recent segment where Morgan sent Mysterio a text that got a surprising reaction from his Judgment Day mates. This has been compared to the allegations in the lawsuit that McMahon would share pictures of Grant with those who worked within WWE.

Are these coincidences or intentional moments in which WWE’s creative direction is taking pointed jabs at the lawsuit? This is where the conversation for many within the internet wrestling community has turned.

In the eyes of some, it’s a simple coincidence within a story. However, WWE doesn’t have many coincidences. This is an organization that makes sure to micromanage nearly every aspect of production and presentation. Anything that gets on in front of the public doesn’t do so by accident or coincidence. This is one major reason so many are raising their eyebrows to this angle. It has some eerily parallels to a lawsuit that Triple H has stated he hasn’t read. That is hard for some to believe.

Then on the other hand, imagine if this was just a coincidence. If that’s the case, the next question is whether someone has raised their hand to express concerns with the perception of the angle to date. This lawsuit is a major issue that can have massive implications for the organization. Making light of it in such a way should be a non-starter. If WWE is taking these allegations seriously, one must wonder if there’s a voice in the room to speak to how the perception isn’t sitting right with a growing part of the community.

WWE has a long history of using its weekly television shows to make light of real-life situations. That history has some wondering if the booking of Liv Morgan is a coincidence or a calculated decision. If the thoughts around the latter are true, then those who question the seriousness of this company in the face of the accusations posed by Janel Grant have a strong base to stand upon.
