Tag team wrestling has seen better days. For one reason or another, tag team wrestling has taken a background role to factions and elevating singles performers. That doesn’t mean there isn’t great action happening in tag team matches. In fact, this is far from the case. WWE quietly has one of the best teams in wrestling, but they aren’t on SmackDown or Monday Night Raw. No, that duo is Nathan Frazer and Axiom in WWE NXT.

Overall, tag team wrestling in WWE NXT is solid, but the current tag champions are head and shoulders above the competition on the brand. Axiom and Nathan Frazer are excellent performers on their own. Axiom holds a special place in history as he’s the first Spaniard and the youngest performer to each a 5-star match rating from Dave Meltzer. Frazer was once one of the hottest free agents in wrestling after a stand-out performance in AEW. That led to his signing with WWE and he’s done great work since.

Axiom and Frazer are killing it as a tag team. Their catalog features some outright bangers. Go back to their first reign, for example, their matches against Chase U or their match against MSK. They’ve continued to do go work in their second reign, and there’s an opportunity to continue to grow there.

What’s unfortunate to say is that at some point, Axiom and Frazer will hit the ceiling in WWE NXT. Fans will want to see them on the main roster. Think about the matches against DIY, Finn Balor, and JD McDonaugh, Pretty Deadly, and others. If given the space to do their best work as tag team performers, Axiom and Frazer would fit in perfectly. Sadly, that hope looks like a far-off dream as the titles are de-emphasized more on a weekly basis.

Another thing of note. Teams that battle Axiom and Frazer tend to break up. In fact, all the teams that have challenged them eventually split up in a violent fashion. For months, Fazer and Axiom have bickered and almost come to blows after mistakes on multiple occasions. It’s one of professional wrestling’s ten commandments that great teams must split. When that happens fans will get a fantastic match by two of the best performers in the brand.

Nathan Frazer and Axiom are an amazing tag team. Their in-ring performances match anything offered by any other teams across promotions. Here’s to hoping they get to show off their abilities on the main roster and on the biggest stages.
