WWE must do an Evolution II
WWE continues to ride a wave of momentum that has lasted throughout 2024. Almost every week it seems like the promotion is celebrating another sellout, milestone, or something else that is a big deal. As the company continues to rack up successes, it’s time for WWE to put forth Evolution II while the spotlight on the promotion couldn’t be bigger.
October 28 will mark six years since WWE put on an all-women’s PPV. The event was held at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The reported attendance hit 10,900, which is a strong number even by today’s standards. This was a monumental moment and looking back at the card the show featured all the biggest names in women’s wrestling. Alas, the WWE has failed to put on a second showcase, even as many fans still call for it today.
At this point, there’s no excuse. WWE has all the resources to put on an Evolution II. This roster is bursting with talented performers who could fill out a card. Between Monday Night Raw, SmackDown, and WWE NXT – this may be the best women’s roster put together under one banner. Think about a card that featured Liv Morgan, Rhea Ripley, Roxanne Perez, Giulia, IYO Sky, Kairi Sane, Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, Chelsea Green, Nia Jax, Bayley, Piper Niven, Michin, Tiffany Stratton, and several other names on the roster. The show could even honor the legacy of Chyna with an inaugural battle royale in her honor akin to the Andre the Giant Battle Royale. There’s so much potential here that it seems almost like promotional malpractice to not do so.
This would also be an important step as WWE continues to take part in a growing free agency race. 2024 was marked by several names jumping between promotions. The perception is that All Elite Wrestling is winning the battle, as names like Will Ospreay, Mercedes Mone, Kazuchika Okada, Deonna Purrazzo, Kamille, and Ricochet all made the move. WWE has picked up its own important pieces like Jacob Fatu, Ethan Page, Giulia, Andrade, GOD, and others. Being the promotion that is committed to putting on a women’s PLE every year would be a benefit when talking to female free agents or even attempting to re-sign those on the roster. This would be a major show on a bigger platform than any other company could offer.
WWE’s women’s division is getting more time on television but there is still room to do a better job with the group’s booking. Putting together a well-crafted show for Evolution II would do a lot in improving the fan’s perception of how the women are treated. It’s been six years. This is something that must happen.
