Retired or not, professional wrestling does not need Brock Lesnar

Rumors swirled about Brock Lesnar's status but regardless of the outcome he should not be involved in professional wrestling.

Click bait and fabricated headlines are a frequent occurrence in professional wrestling media. Former UFC and WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar, was involved in one on Sunday when posts popped up about him telling a fan of his retirement. This was eventually debunked but brings up a solid point of discussion: retired or not, professional wrestling does not need Brock Lesnar.

In January 2024, while not mentioned directly by name, Brock Lesnar was hinted at in the Janel Grant lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and the WWE. He was officially identified in the lawsuit in February 2025 in an amended complaint from Grant’s team.

As this situation plays out in the courts, these allegations are still serious and should be taken seriously. WWE took steps to remove Lesnar from television and even removed him as much as possible from the recently released WWE 2K25 video game. According to multiple reports, there are no creative plans for Lesnar’s return. Even though a contingent of fans want to see him back.

Brock Lesnar has no place in wrestling today

While Lesnar may not be officially retired from professional wrestling, the industry needs to move away from him and not welcome him back into the fold. These allegations are just that, allegations; but they are enough to cause concern about the behavior of one of the biggest stars in combat spots. Professional wrestling has a horrible history of holding people accountable for past situations that can place a “black eye” on the industry. This was perhaps one of the worst in history.

This goes beyond WWE. Imagine if another major company like All Elite Wrestling elected to bring Lesnar into the fold. Even the rumor of the consideration would be enough to cause an uproar with fans. The same could be said for TNA Wrestling and New Japan Pro; no one would want to deal with the negative response that would come from fans and media members alike. And the response, rightfully so, would be loud.

Is Brock Lesnar retired? That doesn’t seem to be the case as of this writing. But that still doesn’t negate the fact that professional wrestling does not need him in any fashion.
