Professional wrestling promotions need a main character. WWE has gone through its series of top names who were the focal point of long-term story telling. Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Becky Lynch are some examples of performers who’ve been the main character during their top run. As 2025 winds down, the tide should turn toward a new main character of the men’s division. That person is none other than Sami Zayn.

All Elite Wrestling is experiencing an upswing of momentum. This is partly because of the promotion making a creative shift, putting the focus on “Hangman” Adam Page heading into AEW All In 2025. His victory over Jon Moxley to capture the AEW World Championship for the second time was a huge moment. One that was widely predictable, but nonetheless impactful.

This led to many pushing the idea that Page is AEW’s “main character.” Meaning that his character arc remains as perhaps the most important character arc of the promotion’s young history. As Page goes, so goes AEW.

Sami Zayn could have that same type of impact in WWE. He checks all the boxes of a believable professional wrestler and sports entertainer. His character exudes a genuine feeling that comes across as a real person. WWE and Zayn’s biggest fans do not have to worry about Zayn being caught up in some controversial matter outside of the ring. In many ways, Zayn represents all that professional wrestling fans want to believe is “good” about the industry.

Then the bell rings. Sami Zayn is one of the best bell-to-bell professional wrestlers on the WWE roster. With nearly 25 years of experience, Zayn has proven that he can wrestle with the best of the years gone by, today’s generation, and the future. Even within WWE’s stringent in-ring policies, Zayn has proven that he can do it.

Will WWE push Sami Zayn as its main character?

Sami Zayn is someone many fans would consider a perfect professional wrestler. The question is whether WWE sees him in that same light. This is the company that has gone out of its way to push back against what the fans want. Examples such as the stalled “Yes Movement,” delaying KofiMania, and almost completely nixing Becky Lynch’s rise as The Man stand out on a list that includes several others.

One has to wonder if the same would happen to Sami Zayn. His current storyline seems to push the idea that the final outcome would see him capture a WWE World Championship, but that’s never guaranteed. Zayn deserves such a run, and not just a small run with any title, but a long-term angle with the top title on the WWE main roster. He’s that level of a performer and one who can truly bring in fans if given the opportunity to stand in the spotlight.

WWE needs a main character. The company should look no further than Sami Zayn. But in a world where individuals like Logan Paul and Jelly Roll are pushed into prime spots, many wonder if the company will ever put that trust into Sami Zayn.
