A few weeks ago, Seth Rollins was on top of the world. He was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and once again establishing himself as the top name on WWE Raw, setting the stage for the next generation of superstars. All of that came crashing down due to another injury. This time he suffered a shoulder injury in his Crown Jewel match against Cody Rhodes. Rollins gave an update on his timeline to return and it looks like he will be out well into 2026.
"I wish. I wish I could rip this thing off man. Six months," Rollins said while appearing on Good Morning Football on the NFL Network. "My World Championship is gonna be worn by some schmuck. Either Jey Uso or CM Punk. Its awful. It really is the Halloween scaries, guys, but I'm here."
This isn't the first time that Rollins had to step away while in the middle of a title reign. In fact, it is yet another example of his horrible luck when it comes to the timing of his injuries. But one thing that Rollins continues to do every time is that he bounces back and reminds fans that he is one of the greatest in the world today.
What WWE will do with Seth Rollins on the sideline
On November 1, a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned. As Rollins mentioned, either Jey Uso or CM Punk will hold that title. This match pits two of the biggest names on WWE Raw against each other, babyface versus babyface. On its surface, this is a big match that fans in attendance will certainly get hyped for from start to finish. But, let's also pay attention to the elephant in the room - the main event in the men's division is certainly getting older.
It is clear that WWE has its sights set on Bron Breakker being the next big thing for the promotion. At some point in 2026, he will hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Still, waiting until then to crown the man seems like a missed opportunity. Rollins' injury opens the door to crowning Breakker and giving him the chance to prove he's the guy to carry the ball. Former WWE Champion, Nik Nemeth (then known as Dolph Ziggler) pointed this out during an interview.
“There’s one way to find out. Throw his ass in the deep end, and let’s go," Nemeth said while on Busted Open Radio. "Because if you’re getting behind somebody — a lot of people have been bringing up the last few years, and especially the last few weeks and months — if somebody’s ready, and they’re not 45, who the hell cares? Put them in the main event and give them a shot. Give them a chance. It used to be sink or swim. Why not do it now?”
Nemeth is right. Give that person the chance to run with the ball or get out of the way. Now should have been Breakker's time, but instead the WWE Universe is getting another helping of either Punk or Uso. Its an unfortunate trend and one that doesn't seem to be changing any time soon.
