The New Day is one of the most important factions in professional wrestling history. The group formed with Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E pushed the boundaries of what representation means in the business. While the group has gone in a drastically different direction, one thing still remains. The New Day have not won at a WrestleMania. That must change at WrestleMania 41.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are far different than the group fans grew to love over the last decade. They are playing the role of scorned heels, even as many of the WWE Universe are still firmly behind them. With all the success they’ve had over the years, it’s almost surprising to think that they have yet to win as a team at the biggest show in the business. They’ve had several opportunities to do so but could not get the job done. 2025 is the year when that must change.
The New Day’s current angle hangs on picking up a win
The New Day’s shocking turn on Big E was one of the best stories in WWE last year. Fans knew something was going to happen, but no one thought it would swing the way it did during their anniversary celebration.
Unfortunately, all the momentum since that segment has screeched to a halt. There’s no telling why, but many point toward Triple H’s consistently bad presentation of Black male performers on the main roster. While that point may be debated, there’s no arguing that The New Day’s presence on television has completely fallen off. They aren’t even scheduled for the PLE, and that’s the first thing that must change.
The April 7 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw featured a World Tag Team Championship match between The New Day and The War Raiders. It ended with a disqualification in a way that lends to the idea of the match happening again. When that rematch occurs, it needs to be on one of the two nights of WrestleMania.
There’s a story to tell between The War Raiders and The New Day. Going back to the last few years, one could point to the heated feud that these two teams had as a major bump that led to their rapid decline down the tag team division. Taking that history and putting them against each the on WrestleMania would help put the focus back on the tag division, and the winners coming out of the match. The winners need to be The New Day.
It would be hard to take The New Day seriously if they didn’t pic up an important win like this one on a card where the world is watching. Will they be tag team champions again? Sure, but where it happens is equally important in this situation. Giving The New Day their first WrestleMania win with this “new” attitude goes a long way in saying “maybe they were right to make the change.” They’ve been an iconic team for far too long to not have any victories at this PLE.
WrestleMania 41 needs The New Day to take on the War Raiders for the WWE World Tag Team Championship. It should be here that Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston secure the titles and bring the first WrestleMania victory home for the famed stable.
