TNA Slammiversary 2025 was expected to be a monumental night for TNA Wrestling. This was the biggest North American show in the company’s history, with nearly 8,000 fans in attendance. All the attention was on TNA, but coming out of the show, it seems all of that momentum has screeched to a halt. Why? Because the decision to end the show with its two major singles titles around the waists of WWE performers. That was a bad decision and one that will cost the company in the long term.
Trick Williams and Jacy Jayne walked out of TNA Slammiversary with the TNA World Championship and TNA Knockouts World Championship in tow. Two WWE NXT contracted employees took home the biggest prizes in the promotion. This should have been the night where TNA stars stood tall, finally defending home field from these “invaders” looking to disrespect the promotion. Alas, that wasn’t the case, and it is embarrassing in so many ways.
Admittedly so, Williams has done a great job as TNA World Champion. This has been an interesting character development for the popular performer. After he dropped the NXT World Championship, there was concern that he’d be on his way to the main roster. Triple H’s booking, or lack thereof, when it comes to Black singles performers on the main roster, gave fans pause for Williams’ next steps. Picking up the TNA title and morphing into “Hollywood Trick” has been a positive result.
However, that had run its course, and it was time for TNA to be back on top. Joe Hendry’s involvement with WWE completely killed his huge internet push that started in 2024. But fans are ready for Mike Santana to get that major push. The moment was here. In an area that could be considered his “home field.” With the biggest attendance in TNA North American history ready to see him get crowned. But the company went the other way, going along with the WWE star at the top of the card for now.
The decision was even more puzzling in the women’s division. Jacy Jayne is a performer who many speak praises of, but fans are still questioning if she’s the right one to lead this iteration of the women’s division. There’s a lot of work for her to do to prove that she’s the right choice in WWE NXT. She didn’t need a side quest to be the TNA Knockouts World Champion.
The entire booking for this match didn’t make sense. Jayne wasn’t going to lose the WWE NXT Women’s Championship this soon. Masha Slamovich is a popular performer, but she’s barely featured on WWE television. It was clear that she was not going to win either. So, where does this take both women at a time where their focus should be in other places?
There are a lot of times when fans openly question the booking in professional wrestling. The outcomes at TNA Slammiversary 2025 will be one of those moments. With all eyes on TNA Wrestling, it is WWE that stands out as the winner of the evening’s biggest matches, and that doesn’t look good long term.
