Trick Williams is thriving in WWE NXT. He’s the current TNA World Champion, sitting at 52 days holding that title as of this writing. He’s developed a new heel persona that gains momentum and interest on a weekly basis. Williams is hitting his stride in NXT, but his fans should be worried about what comes next.
As 2025 winds down, a Trick Williams call-up feels like reality. Perhaps it happens later this year, or during the Royal Rumble 2026 season, but there’s going to be a time when Williams has to pack his bag to head to either WWE SmackDown or Monday Night Raw. It’s noticeably clear why this is a huge concern.
Recent WWE NXT call-ups are doing well on the main roster. Giulia is the WWE Women’s United States Champion. Roxanne Perez has stepped into a big story with Judgment Day, becoming the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Raquel Rodriguez. Lyra Valkyria is in a hot feud with Becky Lynch and Bayley. Stephanie Vaquer is the current number one contender heading into WWE Clash in Paris. Bron Breakker is in the main event feud on Raw that has put him into the direct crosshairs of the company’s biggest star, Roman Reigns. Tiffany Stratton is the current WWE Women's Champion after winning the Money in the Bank Briefcase. The batch of former WWE NXT Champions is doing great, taking their spots as future centerpieces for the promotion.
Except for Carmelo Hayes. Carmelo Hayes hasn’t had the greatest main roster run. In fact, it has been less than lacking. The stats around his main roster run are pretty clear. He’s not getting the same type of booking as his peers and those who’ve come from NXT in recent years. Yes, he won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but that’s mostly a worthless prize. The majority of the people who’ve won that trophy is soon released by the promotion anyway. Hayes is an afterthought on the main roster, and that should be a concern for anyone excited about Trick Williams on the main roster.
Let’s be honest, Williams has all the parts needed to be a WWE main event performer. He has the size, the look, and the abilities on the microphone. His in-ring work is developing, but be honest – work rate is never a top priority for a WWE superstar. Williams checks all the boxes, and it would be hard for anyone to claim that there’s something he doesn’t have that others named in this piece do. At least enough of a detraction that would disqualify him from getting some momentum behind him.
Triple H continues to face criticism for how Black men are booked on the main roster. If Trick Williams is called up and isn’t utilized in a way that gets fans interested and engaged, those accusations will only grow stronger.
