With Thanksgiving coming up, families will soon be gathered doing things like making food, watching football, and spending time together. For some of those families, WWE and professional wrestling in general will be a topic of conversation. There will be debates over Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes. A Stephanie Vaquer vs. Giulia talk is sure to break out. Who will be called up from NXT? Despite the debates, there will be things that families will agree on. Here are some things that people should be thankful for if they’re fans of WWE.
If fans were asked years ago about their opinion of Dominik Mysterio, it wouldn’t be good. They would talk about his basic look and nepotism. However, asking people the same question now would produce an entirely different answer. The past couple of years, and this year in particular, have been breakout years for him. He’s no longer just Rey’s son. He is over with the crowd, carries himself well as champion, and is a great wrestler. Right now, he is AAA Mega Champion, has an ongoing storyline with the Judgment Day, and will face John Cena for the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series: WarGames. There is a lot to love about him right now. The chorus of cheers and boos whenever he’s in the ring only reinforces his increased popularity.
People who watch just the main roster haven’t been treated to Oba Femi yet. Turning on NXT for the first time will definitely brighten their day. Winning the Iron Survivor Challenge at last year’s Deadline, he got his NXT Championship match and won it at New Year’s Evil. Holding it for 263 days, he lost it at No Mercy to Ricky Saints. Fans naturally assumed that he was finally going up to the main roster. But he returned at the end of the Last Man Standing match between Saints and Trick Williams to reclaim his title. That match will be at Deadline in two weeks, which will be a win-win situation for him. Either he gets back his championship or he heads to the main roster, where he will showcase his insane athleticism and power to thousands of first time watchers.
Penta and Rey Fenix started off their WWE careers on separate paths. Penta went to Raw and Fenix went to SmackDown. As they racked up wins and got over with the crowds, fans still weren’t satisfied. That’s because they performed as the Lucha Brothers in AAA, AEW, MLW, TNA, and on the independent scene. They won many tag team championships in those companies, and fans wanted to see the same thing happen in WWE. At AAA Alianzas, they finally got their wish. After Mysterio and El Grande Americano won their tag match, a video played. Penta and Fenix reunited with each other and challenged them to a match at Guerra de Titanes on December 20. The AAA acquisition has been greatly beneficial so far in many ways, including reuniting a legendary tag team.
Thanksgiving will be a great day for families all across the United States. They get to see family they haven’t seen in months, eat delicious food, and watch various programs on television. But for some families, they get to reunite with other wrestling fans. During that time, lots of topics will be spoken about, especially with Survivor Series: WarGames coming up on Saturday. There might be arguments, but there are some things they should all be thankful for, like Dominik Mysterio, Oba Femi, and the reuniting of the Lucha Brothers.
