WWE NXT Homecoming was a special night that featured a lot of surprises and huge returns. Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, Tyler Breeze, and Carmelo Hayes teaming with Trick Williams were just a few of the big moments. There was another that people are still talking about days later. Finn Balor came back to Full Sail, and the fans were elated to see him back on the brand. It was a stark juxtaposition to him on the main roster, and a reminder that Balor would be a superstar if given the opportunity.

Finn Balor’s music hit, and the fans erupted, reminded of a time when Balor was one of the best workers on the show and in the company. Balor was given the ball on two separate occasions, and he scored touchdown after touchdown, bucket after bucket.

That same feeling never followed him to the main roster. While he’s been featured in main event spots, the championship has eluded him so many times that it’s nearly impossible to imagine Finn Balor holding either of the top titles on Monday Night Raw or SmackDown. That’s an unfortunate misstep and will go down as one of the biggest booking mistakes made in recent years.

Look at him. What is there that Finn Balor can’t do? The only answer to that is “absolutely nothing.” WWE prides itself on champions who “look” the part. Balor checks that box. While he may not be “tall” compared to some of his peers, the man looks the part. Balor would fit right in on ESPN, on red carpets, and other media events where champions are expected to thrive.

As a professional wrestling and sports entertainer, Finn Balor is one of one. He’s easily one of the best in-ring workers in the business today. Not only in WWE, but in the entire industry. He can deliver a great match working as a heel, or a babyface, while facing off against any type of opponent. Look at his resume, there’s plenty of proof there within the WWE and in other companies around the world. And you can’t ignore his character work. He can play the comedic heel, mysterious Demon, or the Prince version and all of them work in today’s wrestling.

There’s no telling how much longer Finn Balor will appear in professional wrestling. But one thing is clear. Fans, regardless of promotion, love him. WWE had the opportunity to position him as a generational champion, and an unfortunate injury derailed that moment. Over the years, they’ve had all the time and chances to recreate that fire, but continue to look in the other direction. When it is all said and done, WWE will miss out on Finn Balor’s full potential.
