ECW on SyFy – 10/27/09
Here’s the rundown for ECW on SyFy for 10/27/09
The show starts off with a video package about tonight’s main even between Yoshi Tatsu and the ECW Champion, Christian.
The 1st segment is the Abraham Washington Show with your host Abraham Washington and co-host, Tony Atlas, talking to ECW GM, Tiffany, about ECW not being represented at Bragging Rights. She puts him in his place by telling him ECW was well represented because a lot of the names on the PPV came from ECW.
William Regal interrupts the segment to ask Tiffany about getting a title shot for the ECW title. She says he will NOT get a title shot, and he may NEVER get another one, ever! He takes out his frustrations on the Abraham Washington Show’s set and screams like an angry gorilla.
Tonight, ECW has a new announcer. Along with Josh Matthews is Byron Saxton. They recap the #1 contender match up from last week between Yoshi Tatsu and Zack Ryder. Then a video package is shown on Yoshi’s history on ECW.
Backstage Interview: Savannah interviews Shelton Benjamin. Talks smack about Sheamus before their match.
Sheamus defeats Shelton Benjamin via pin fall after hitting a bicycle kick to the head.
AUTHORS NOTE: This is Sheamus’ last match on ECW... Also, first match’s opening bell at 18 mins into the broadcast.
ANNOUNCEMENT: 11 days until Wrestlemania tickets go on sale!
Backstage segment: Rosa Mendez is talking to Gregory Helms about random crap, when they’re interrupted by Katie Lea & Paul Burchill. They tell Helms to give a message to The Hurricane to meet them in the ring next week.
Backstage Interview: Savannah interviews Christian. He gives Yoshi Tatsu credit for getting wins and earning his title shot. He says he’s going to teach Yoshi a lesson any young superstar must learn, how to cope with defeat.
ECW Title Match
Christian defeats Yoshi Tatsu via pin fall after hitting the Kill Switch. After the match Christian is attacked by William Regal, Vladimir Kozlov, and Ezekiel Jackson.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
My guess is that by WWE bringing in this new announcer, Byron Saxton, and Smackdown announcer, Jim Ross, have another episode of Bell’s palsy, that Matt Striker will be reunited with his former announce partner, Todd Grisham over on Smackdown until further notice. It’s kind of messed up that it had to be this way, but Striker is one of the best color commentators in recent memory. This guy is a student of the game and knows more factoids about wrestling and its history that this position is perfect for him. If this is the case, congrats on the promotion Matt.
Again with the Abraham Washington Show… C’mon WWE! Enough is enough! What did this segment prove? It pretty much was another segment where William Regal could whine about not getting a title shot!
One thing I made a note of earlier in the post that I want to come back to. It was 18 minutes into the broadcast when the opening bell of the first match started! To top it off, there was only 2 matches on the card tonight. Plus, in the 2 matches they did have, they broke into commercial during both of them. You can’t even give us 3 FULL matches in an hour show! I hate to beat a dead horse, but today the club is out again! Matches are about 8-10 mins long. Basic math tells me that’s about 24-30 mins or approx. half of your show, but NOPE! WWE can’t even do that! Story line is more important than actual wrestling. It’s just sad…
Yoshi Tatsu vs. Christian was a very good match. Even though I didn’t agree with who was the #1 contender, they put on a good show and kept me on the edge of my seat. I actually believed that Tatsu was going to pull out the upset.
