Friday Night Smackdown – 11/20/09

Last night’s episode of Smackdown was off the charts heading into Survivor Series.  Here’s what went down:

Batista vs. Matt Hardy
WINNER: Batista via pin fall after Batista hit three spine busters and a Batista Bomb on Hardy.

Video Package: Footage from last weeks contract signing between Batista and Rey Mysterio.

Backstage: Josh Matthews catches up with Batista who says, “Rey Mysterio will NEVER embarrass me again!  At Survivor Series, there is no regret and no remorse!

Video Package:  History of the Brothers of Destruction.

Backstage: Teddy Long is approached by Vickie Guerrero and Eric Escobar.  Vickie calls Teddy out for losing control of his show.

• Interrupted by Vince McMahon who says that the Brothers of Destruction was a bad idea and blames Teddy (it was Vince’s idea), then names Vickie as a new Smackdown consultant!

Drew McIntyre vs. Finlay
WINNER: Drew McIntyre via pin fall after a thumb to the eye led to the Double Arm DDT.

CM Punk comes to the ring to have a “straight edge intervention” with the fans.  A table was set up in the ring with three buckets and a trash can.  Under the 1st was a carton of cigarettes. Punk says, “Even with a warning label, you throw your life away!”  Under the 2nd was a bottle of prescription pills.  Punk then says, “This is failure in a bottle!  You take one and you’re giving up on life!”  Under the last was a bottle of Whiskey.  Punk then says, “This eats away at your insides and your relationships.”  All items were thrown into the trash can!

• R-Truth comes down to the ring to speak the truth to Punk.  He says that, “People are free to make their own choices,” and “Punk thinks he’s better than everyone else!”  Then DDTs Punk and dumps all of the cigarettes, pills and whiskey out of the trash onto Punk.

John Morrison (champion) vs. Dolph Ziggler
1st Fall: Morrison via roll up pin fall.
2nd Fall: Ziggler via pin fall after hitting the Zig Zag.
3rd Fall: Morrison via pin fall after hitting Starship Pain.
WINNER: John Morrison retains the Intercontinental Title!

Mickie James vs. Layla
WINNER: Mickie James via reverse bridging roll up pin fall.

• After the match up, Layla turns Mickie’s attention to the video screen.  Michelle McCool made a video calling Mickie, Piggy James and put her face on a pig.  Mickie starts to cry!

Rey Mysterio vs. Tyson Kidd (with Natalya)
WINNER: No Contest

• Batista, who was on commentary, pushed Kidd out of the way when Mysterio went up to the top rope to hit a high risk maneuver, so Mysterio attacked Batista!  That’s 2 weeks in a row now that Batista has been embarrassed by Mysterio.

Backstage: Chris Jericho and Big Show are backstage discussing their match tonight against Kane and The Undertaker.  Show says Jericho is scared of them.  When Show leaves, the lights go out and Jericho freaks!  It was Show who turned the lights out!

Brothers of Destruction (Kane and The Undertaker) vs. JeriShow
WINNERS: No Contest.

• The BOD had the match well in hand.  Jericho got choke slammed mid ring.  Show took out Kane on the outside, then KO Punched the Undertaker.  Show was helping up Jericho who hit his own partner with the Code Breaker.  Jericho then went outside, grabbed the World Heavyweight Title and walked up the ramp to gloat!

QUICK THOUGHTS:

There was a close up on the face of Batista during the opening contest, and I never noticed this before, but Batista has a silly-ass looking, girly nose ring!  I guess that’s to go with the girly belly button tattoo!  WTF!

Well, now that Vickie Guerrero is a Smackdown consultant I’m guessing that she’ll be getting more camera time… JOY!!! (sarcasm dripping from my voice!)

The Punk intervention segment was awesome!  It was longer than the Finlay vs. McIntyre match up!  I love the fact that Punk’s getting more over as a heel, but again, I’m still pissed at the way WWE’s doing it by allowing him to get booed while preaching good things I learned in D.A.R.E. when I was in 5th grade.

I really think that WWE’s trying to get Mickie James to quit after seeing the video segment with Michelle McCool.  That was just wrong!  If you don’t read wrestling news online very often, WWE’s been trying to get Mickie James to lose weight.  I don’t know why because she’s thick in all the right places and not some toothpick like McCool!  This was an absolute dig at Mickie and I don’t like that!  She’s a beautiful woman and one of the few women in WWE who can actually call themselves a wrestler!

It was nice to see the Brothers of Destruction together again, but I sort of hope that WWE doesn’t drag it out like they’ve done with DX.  The ending of their match was very chaotic, and I’m thinking that Survivor Series may mark the beginning of the end for JeriShow!
