Did anyone have Thanksgiving Round 2 on Friday?  I did, so I would like to apologize in advance for the tardiness of this blog post by a few hours.  Here’s what went down on Smackdown last night:

Video Package: Survivor Series Highlights

Chris Jericho comes to ring side and talks about he and the Big Show‘s title match at TLC against DX saying, “A TLC match is one of the most dangerous matches in WWE history that there has only been eight, and I’ve been in two of them!”

  • Jericho then rants about how he should be the #1 contender, and Teddy Long comes out to address Jericho’s concerns saying that he can have a non-title match against the World Heavyweight Champion, The Undertaker tonight!

Cryme Tyme vs. Hart Dynasty with Natalya
WINNERS: Hart Dynasty via pin fall after DH Smith hit Shad Gaspard with a brutal looking side suplex.

Backstage: Teddy Long with John Morrison who wants an opponent for tonight.

  • Interrupted by Vickie Guerrero & Eric Escobar who claim that Escobar should get a title shot because he’s been overlooked by Teddy and Vickie threatens to call Vince McMahon if he doesn’t get it.

CM Punk comes down to the ring with a paper bag in hand and a friend who we are introduced to as Luke Gallows formerly known as Festus.  Punk claims he’s been Gallows’ mentor and removed the evils from his life saying that he was being enabled by his family and overly medicated causing his former state of mind.  “This is my crusade, as long as there is people who need help!”  He then turns to the paper bag saying that next week a drug comes out that’s more powerful than anything on the market.  He pulls out the new Jeff Hardy DVD.  Saying that you should NOT blindly follow the Charismatic Enabler.

  • Interrupted by Matt Hardy who tells Punk that he doesn’t know his brother and that Jeff was a free spirit who lived his own life the way he wanted, and that everyone makes mistakes.

CM Punk with Luke Gallows vs. Matt Hardy
WINNER: Matt Hardy via DQ after Gallows attacked Hardy from behind.  After the match, a two on one beat down ensues.

Video Package: Clips from last week’s verbal attack on Mickie James from Michelle McCool.

Backstage: Josh Matthews is with Mickie who asks how’s she’s feeling after last week.  Mickie responds, “That was juvenile!  I belong here and I’m not leaving Smackdown!”

#1 Contenders Match for the World Heavyweight Title
Batista vs. Kane
WINNER: Batista via count out.  The brawl went to the outside behind the barrier where the announcer and time keeper sit.  Out of view from the referee in the ring, Batista hit Kane in the leg with a chair giving himself time to get back into the ring before the referee’s 10-count.

Intercontinental Title Match
Eric Escobar with Vickie Guerrero vs. John Morrison (champion)
WINNER: John Morrison via pin fall after hitting Star Ship Pain.  After the match, Vickie verbally assaulted Escobar mid ring saying “I’m done with you!”

Backstage: Escobar catches up with Vickie to tell her, “Every time we kissed, after wards I had to go wash my mouth out with disinfectant.  I’m finished with YOU!”

Chris Jericho vs. The Undertaker – Batista on commentary (not saying much)
WINNER: The Undertaker via DQ after Batista attacked him from behind.  After the match, Batista laid into Taker with multiple chair shots leaving Taker battered and broken!

QUICK THOUGHTS:

When it comes to Cryme Tyme versus the Hart Dynasty, I’m all for them creating a rivalry, but this isn’t the 1980s anymore.  Back then, you could face each other 300 days out of the year in different towns and it didn’t become over kill because there was one thing missing back then… not so many TV shows.  Now when I see them fight every week, and I’m getting really irritated when I see practically the same match every time!  Either WWE has to change things up once in awhile with them, maybe a singles match here and there… OR create new tag teams for them to square off against!!!  I’m for new tag teams!

Glad to see Festus back as something other than the ridiculous character that he once was.  When you think about it, now Punk may get even more over as a heel if that could even be done!  He’s got a body guard now, he doesn’t even have to fight his own battles, which gives him more heat!

Too bad this wasn’t Monday Night RAW when they interviewed Mickie James, I would’ve loved to see a LIVE TV profanity laden rant on how WWE is F’d up about saying that she’s overweight!  That would’ve been fantastic TV!!!

Batista’s the #1 contender… Who didn’t see that one coming?!?  I’m so sick of Batista and it’s sad because he’s not a bad performer, he’s just not overly entertaining to me!  His match with Kane tonight was decent.  The attack on Taker you knew was coming because he was at ring side again!  We’ll see what goes down at TLC in a couple weeks.
